Match 45 Sachin Shines As Mumbai Wins Against Rajasthan Royals

Mumbai India’s were invited to bat first by Rajasthan Royals today in the 45th match of DLF Indian Premier League. Mumbai Indians today opened the innings with Jayasurya and Sachin, but Jayasurya was out for just 1 and team score read at 12/1 in 1.3 overs. A brilliant bowling spell by Shane Watson in which he struck thrice in his first two overs broke the backbone of Mumbai Indians innings.But Sachin on the other hand again anchored the Mumbai Indians innings with a superb 89 not out off 59 balls. This is the highest individual score of Sachin in IPL. It was just Sachin who helped the team to post a decent total of 174/5 in 20 overs. He did get some support from Duminy and Pollard but all credit goes to the little master for his excellent innings which took Mumbai Indians to a fighting total.

Rajasthan Royals needed 175 to win but could not get the desired start. They lost three quick wickets and were 11/3 in 2.4 overs. Mumbai Indians bowlers gave a superb start and never allowed Royals to score runs freely. At the end of powerplay (6 overs), Rajasthan Royals were 34/3. Rajasthan Royals lost wickets at regular interval, thanks to superb bowling and fielding by Mumbai Indians. Rajasthan Royals lost three wickets due to run outs and were 85/6 in 13.5 overs. Required rate was sky high and Royals crumbled under that pressure and could manage to score 137/8 in 20 overs and thus lost the match by 37 runs.

Today in super sunday, the second match which is lined up at 8pm will be between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians. Rajasthan Royals are currently placed 4th in the points table with an emphatic win over Kings XI in last match and with a win today, they can move closer to a berth in semi’s. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians are number 1 and are certain for semi’s but they way the middle order collapsed in the last match against KKR, can cause some worry to Sachin and team. Mumbai Indians would like to forget the previous match memory and get back to wining momentum in today’s match. Also today’s encounter would be between Sachin and Shane Warne, old cricket rivals and each would be certain to prove his superiority.

Match 41 Kings XI Punjab Stun Mumbai Indians

Venue: Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali.
Date: April 9, 2010
Time: 8:00 pm
Toss: Mumbai Indians elected to bat.
Result: Kings XI Punjab won by 6 wickets

After wining the toss, Mumbai Indians elected to bat. Shikhar Dhawan and Sachin Tendulkar opened the innings for them. Today, the duo could not gave them the start they have been giving so far in IPL 2010 as Dhawan was bowled by Irfan Pathan for just 2. Mumbai Indians were 7/1 in 1.1 overs, A Rayudu and Sachin then played sensibly and took the team score past 50. A Rayudu was the next to get out and once his wicket felt, wickets started tumbling one after the other. From 50/1 they were reduced to 96/5 in 13.4 overs. Kings XI bowler’s Irfan Pathan and P Chawla got three wickets each and broke the backbone of Mumbai batting order. JP Duminy then showed some resistance and scored 35 runs, the highest scorer for Mumbai Indians . Kings XI Punjab bowled a superb last over and gave just 3 runs to take 3 wickets and restricted Mumbai to 154/9 in 20 overs.

Chasing the total of 155, Jayawardene and Adrian Barath gave them a quick start and took the score to 41 before Jayawardene got out. After the fall of first wicket, Sangakkara came to the center and took the charge. Adrian Barath and Sangakkara scored runs with ease and scored at 9 runs per over. Adrian Barath was lbw by Duminy for 33 in the 11th over. Kings XI Punjab were well placed at 102/2 in 13 overs and needed just 53 runs off last 7 overs with 8 wickets in hand. Yuvraj got out for just 15 leaving Kings XI at 125/3 in 16.3 overs. Soon Sangakkara completed his fifty but was out but Kings XI were on the verge of victory and they did not mess up this time.Finally Kings XI were able to stun Mumbai Indians by registering a comprehensive win by 6 wickets.

Kings XI Punjab will take on Mumbai Indians today at Mohali at 8pm. Kings XI Punjab has to play well to save the lost pride where as Mumbai Indians who are already the table toppers would like to maintain the top position and keep the winning momentum. Kings XI Punjab are already out of semi’s race and are just playing for pride so they will be playing without any pressure and would thus repeat what they did to KKR few days back.

Match 37 Chennai Super Kings Halt Mumbai Indians Victory Train

Toss: Chennai Super Kings elected to bat
Result: Chennai Super Kings won by 24 runs

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to bat today against Mumbai Indians. Chennai Super Kings opened the innings with Murli Vijay and Hayden, both of which were the in form batsmen for CSK. Sachin’s Mumbai Indians opened the bowling with Mclaren due to Zaheer’s absence. On the other hand, harbhajan started the bowling and this proved beneficial for Mumbai Indians as he got the priced wicket of Murli Vijay in the 4th over. Chennai Super Kings batsmen played really well today and all of them contributed. But in the end overs, when hitting was required, Pollard bowled a wonderful spell and gave double jolt to CSK. However Chennai Super Kings were still able to post a total of 165/4 in 20 overs though at one stage it looked that they could score in excess of 180 as they had wickets in hand.

The chase of 166 began on a high note as Shikhar Dhawan and Sachin Tendulkar opened the innings and scored runs with ease. They scored 46 for the first wicket before Dhawan felt for 16. Sachin and Saurav Tiwary then took the score past 50. Sachin was retired as he was not feeling well. This changed the whole dynamics of the game as the entire middle order of Mumbai Indians collapsed when Sachin got retired ill. From 46/1 they were 89/7 in 14.2 overs and it looked they will be bundled out for less than 100. But then Sachin came back to salvage the pride of Mumbai Indians. He and Harbhajan Singh took the team score past 100. Mumbai Indians were 103/7 in 16 overs and required 63 off last 4 overs. Sachin got out for 45 and the game was almost all over for Mumbai Indians though Harbhajan Singh tried his level best. Chennai Super Kings finally were able to stop the winning streak of Mumbai Indians and won the match by 24 runs.
