Today in the 22nd match of DLF IPL 2012, Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to bat first. Paul Valthaty and Adam Gilchrist opened the innings and scored 24 runs for the first wicket partnership in 3 overs. Brett Lee provided the first break through to KKR when he got the wicket of Paul Valthaty who scored just 8. Shaun Marsh and Gilchrist then played some good shots but while attempting a single in the 6th over, Adam Gilchrist suffered a hamstring injury and was retired hurt. Mandeep Singh was the next to come in but Balaji got his wicket when he had scored just 6 runs. S Marsh and D Hussey then had the challenge to lift the run rate but first Shaun Marsh was dismissed by Brett Lee and then a terrible mix up lead to Hussey’s wicket via run out. With 87/4 in 14.2 overs, Kings XI Punjab needed some power hitting but the batsmen failed to score runs and even after Gilchrist’s return, Punjab managed to post a modest total of 124/7 in 20 overs.

Chasing 125 to win, Kolkata Knight Riders got to a superb start with B McCullum and G Gambhir adding 53 runs in just 5.5 overs for the first wicket partnership. B McCullum was the first wicket to fell as he got out after scoring 15 off 18 balls (3×4). M Bisla was the next to come in and he along with captain Gambhir played some good shots to take KKR to 74 before getting out. KKR needed 50 to win from last 10 overs and it was a cake walk for them. Gambhir scored a brilliant 66 off 44 balls (7×4, 1×6) and Kallis scored 30 off 23 balls (2×4, 1×6) to take their team to a superb 8 wicket win.

R Uthappa and J Ryder opened the innings and gave a flying start to Pune as they added 63 runs in 7 overs for the first wicket partnership. J Ryder was the first wicket to fell as he got out after scoring 34 runs off 22 balls (4×4,1×6). After this wicket, R Uthappa smashed RCB Bowlers to sides of the ground as he along with Ganguly took the score past 100. Gayle and V Kohli had a huge task once again in their hands as RCB needed 120 to win from their last 10 overs. But Kohli failed once again as he got out after scoring just 16 leaving RCB struggling at 72/3 in 11.5 overs. Chris Gayle was the only hope for RCB and he completed his first half century in IPL 2012. Gayle continued to hit sixes as he scored 5 sixes of R Sharma’s one over to ensure that the game goes for a thrilling end. Just when it looked Gayle is taking the game away from Pune, Nehra clean bowled him bringing smiles to Pune Warrior’s faces. AB de Villiers was the next batsmen in and he along with Tiwary hit some might sixes and brought RCB closer to victory. Today in the 20th match of DLF IPL, Deccan Chargers won the toss and elected to bat first. K Sangakkara and S Dhawan opened the innings for DC and gave them the best possible start. The duo added 94 for the first wicket partnership in just 10.4 overs before Sangakkara got out after scoring 44 off 32 balls with 5 fours and 1 six. S Dhawan completed his fifty and got out after scoring 52 off 43 balls with 8 fours leaving DC at 108/2 in 13.1 overs. D Christian and JP Duminy then joined the run feast as they both hammered Rajasthan bowlers. JP Duminy was particularly severe as he scored 58 off 26 with 3 fours and 5 sixes and was supported brilliantly by D Christian who scored 29 off 19 balls with 2 fours and 1 six. The duo helped Deccan Chargers post a good total of 196/2 in 20 overs.

Chasing 197 to win, R Dravid and A Rahane gave an explosive start to Rajasthan as the duo added 62 runs in just 5.5 overs before Dravid got out after scoring 42 off 24 balls which included 7 fours and 1 six. After Dravid’s wicket, Menaria joined Rahane and the duo scored runs with ease and took the team score past 100. A Menaria was the next wicket to fall when the team score was 110 in 12 overs. Needing 78 to win from 7 overs, the onus was on Rahane and Owais Shah both in form batsmen but A Rahane got out after scoring a brilliant 44 runs off 31 balls with 5 fours and 1 six. Brad Hodge joined Shah but soon Misra got the wicket of Shah leaving RR at 134/4 in 15.1 overs. 17 runs were scored in the 17th over by Hodge and Botha and even after Botha’s wicket, Hodge played a superb cameo of 48 runs in 21 balls to take his team to a scintillating 5 wicket win.
