Match 39 – Delhi Daredevils Won By 7 Wickets Against Kolkata Knight Riders

Result – Delhi Daredevils won by 7 wickets

Kolkata Knight Riders were invited to bat first by Delhi and this decision of Delhi paid off really well as Kolkata Knight Riders lost wickets at regular interval The first wicket fell in form of McCullum when the team score was just 7. Kolkata Knight Riders never recovered and lost wickets at regular interval. Only Saurav Ganguly showed some resistance from the top order and scored 44 runs. Later Ajit Agarkar (39 runs) helped Kolkata Knight Riders post a total of 123/8 in 20 overs

Delhi Daredevils Innings
Delhi Daredevils got off to a very good start. Even the target was moderate keeping in mind the earlier matches of IPL season 2. Delhi Daredevils openers scored freely and took the team score past 50 in 7th over. Though they lost 3 quick wickets but till then the damage was done and the game looked in control of Delhi Daredevils. AB de Villers made sure no more wickets are lost and he along with Karthik took Delhi Daredevils to one more thumping victory.

Match 38 – Mumbai Indians Won Against Bangalore Royal Challengers By 16 Runs

Result – Mumbai Indians won by 16 runs

Mumbai Indians Innings
Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first. They lost the priced wicket of Sachin Tendulkar and it looked they would be in some trouble. But Jayasurya, Rahane and Duminy played sensational cricket and scored runs with ease. Jayasurya was the second and only wicket which fell and after that Rahane and Duminy cruised the score past 100 in just 14.4 overs. They both remained unbeaten till end and helped Mumbai Indians post a total of 157/2 in 20 overs.

Bangalore Royal Challengers Innings
Bangalore Royal Challengers started on a strong note but some quick wickets forced them to be more cautious and it lead to a drop in the run rate. When the strategy break was held after 10 overs, Bangalore Royal Challengers were struggling at 58/4. It needed a heroic innings from some one from Bangalore Royal Challengers but no one could play a match winning innings. Though Boucher raised some hopes but the run rate was way too high. In the end they could manage 141/7 and thus Mumbai Indians won the match by 16 runs.

Match 37 – Chennai Super Kings Win By 7 Wickets Against Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals Innings
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to bat first. But they lost Ojha on a duck but then Smith and Asnodkar played some good shots and took the score pass 50 run mark. It looked a good start for Rajasthan Royals but once they lost Smith and Asnodkar, the middle order fell like cards. None of the batsmen could score some fast runs so that a good total can be set for Chennai Super Kings and in the end it was 140/7 in 20 overs.

Chennai Super Kings Innings
Chasing a target of 141, Chennai Super Kings lost two wickets for just 37 runs in 6 overs. But Hayden and Badrinath played sensibly and scored runs with ease. They both hammered the bowlers to all corners and it looked that Chennai Super Kings would win the match easily. This exactly happened and due to 48 runs by Hayden and 59 by Badrinath, Chennai Super Kings registered a 7 wicket win.

Match 36 – Kings XI Punjab Beat Deccan Chargers By 3 Wickets

Date – May 9, 2009
Result – Kings XI Punjab won by 3 wickets.

Deccan Chargers Innings
Deccan Chargers were invited to bat first by Kings XI captain Yuvraj Singh. Gilchrist and Gibbs gave them a quick start and scored 31 runs for opening wicket partnership in just 3.4 overs. Gilchrist was the first to get out and soon Gibbs to followed.Suman and Sharma then came to bat but Sharma got out after scoring just 9 runs. The whole stake of the team was now on Symond and he didnt let it down. Symonds hammered bowlers to all corners and scored 60 runs of just 36 balls (4*2,6*4). It was due to his superb batting that Deccan Chargers were able to post a good total of 168/5 in 20 overs.

Kings XI Punjab Innings
Kings XI Punjab started of well in the run chase and scored 41 runs for first wicket partnership . Sohal was the first to get out and very soon Katich also got out leaving Kings XI Punjab 42/2 in the 5th over. Sangakkara and Yuvraj then played some good shots and it looked Kings XI Punjab are in command. But both batsmen fell in one over of Shoaib leaving Kings XI Punjab 86/4 in 10 overs. The match was wide open and it could have gone in favor of any side. But Jayawardene changed the game to Kings XI Punjab’s favor by scoring 43 runs of 28 balls (4*1, 6*3). The drama continued as Jayawardene got run out and brought Brett Lee to crease. He hit a six and in the last over only 8 runs were required. Kings XI Punjab successfully managed those and won the match by 3 wickets.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first. They got to a very bad start and lost 2 wickets in the first over itself. Duminy the main stay of Mumbai Indians was also back to pavilion and it looked they were in real trouble. They had not yet recovered from earlier blows, Sachin was also back in pavilion. It looked Mumbai Indians would not even cross 100 run mark but some good batting by middle order helped them score 116/10 in 20 overs.
