Sunrisers Hyderabad Beat Rajasthan Royals To Move Closer To Playoffs Spot

Today in the 68th match of IPL 2013, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and elected to bat first. Faulkner claimed two wickets in the second over of the innings leaving Sunrisers at 4/2 in 2 overs. With both openers Parthiv Patel and Shikhar Dhawan back, captain Cameron White and Hanuma Vihari had a huge responsibility on their shoulders but captain White got our on a duck leaving Sunrisers in deep trouble at 5/3 in 2.4 overs. Hanuma Vihari and Biplab Samantray then tried to revive Sunrisers prospects and the duo added 44 runs before Hanuma got out after scoring 19 off 28 balls. With 49/4 in 10.3 overs, Sunrisers needed some one to raise the run rate. Biplab Samantray and Darren Sammy then took the team score past 100 with superb knocks of 55 and 23 respectively. 13 ball 17 by Thisara Perera finally helped Sunrisers post a total of 136/9 in 20 overs.

Chasing 137 to win and make qualifying for Sunrisers hard, Royals got off to a good start as captain Dravid and Rahane added 39 in 7.3 overs before Rahul Dravid was run out by White for 25. This was the one wicket which change the course of the match as wickets started to fell at regular intervals. Ajinkya Rahane was the next to fall followed by Sanju Samson. At 51/3 in 11.5 overs, Royals still looked in command as they had Watson and Stuart Binny but Perera accounted for both of them leaving Royals half down at 65/5 in 14 overs. The middle order and lower middle order collapsed within 3 overs and Royals were in tatters at 85/8 in 17.1 overs. Kevon Cooper’s 26, the highest individual score from Royals in this match finally helped Royals to reach 113/9 in 20 overs and thus lose the match by 23 runs.

With this win, Sunrisers have moved one step closer to the playoffs. Kings XI Punjab are now out of the playoff contention and now Sunrisers will be hoping that Chennai beats RCB otherwise it would go to the net run rate. The team with better run rate will be the 4th team to qualify.

Kings XI Punjab Beat Delhi Daredevils By 7 Runs To Keep Playoffs Hopes Alive

Today in the 67th match of IPL 2013, Delhi won the toss and invited KXIP to bat first. Openers Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh gave them flying start as they added 60 in 7.3 overs before Gilchrist got out after scoring quick fire 42 off 26 balls. Azhar Mahmood then fell cheaply as he scored just 9 but man in form David Miller and Shaun Marsh then took the team score past 100. Shaun Marsh fell to Morkel after scoring 45 leaving KXIP at 120/3 in 16.2 overs. But a cameo of 44 in 25 balls which included 3 fours and 4 sixes by David Miller and 13 ball 22 by Rajagopal Sathish helped KXIP post a decent total of 171/4 in 20 overs.

Chasing 172 to win and knock of Kings XI Punjab from the league, Delhi changed the opening pair and opened with Mahela Jayawardene and Unmukt Chand. But the result remained same as they lost Chand in the 3rd over when the team score was just 11. Irfan Pathan was then sent to the center to increase the run rate but he failed as got out after scoring just 1. Man in form David Warner got out for a duck as this twin blow in the 4th over left Delhi reeling at 12/3 in 4 overs. Captain Mahela and Virender Sehwag then steadied the innings and took the score past 50. Just when the duo started to look dangerous, Awana striked and got the wicket of Sehwag who scored 30 in 22 balls. Mahela Jayawardene and Ben Rohrer then took the charge and kept Delhi’s hopes alive. The duo took the the team score past 100 and in the bid to increase the run rate, Mahela Jayawardene got out in the 17th over when the team score was 111. Needing 61 to win from last 4 overs, it was a Herculean task but Ben Rohrer played a cameo and hit few sixes to bring the equation back in Delhi’s favor. 19 runs came in the 19th over and Delhi needed 22 from the final over. Ben Rohrer got out on the very first ball of the over after playing superbly for his 29 ball 49 which included 4 fours and 3 sixes. Morne Morkel hit two sixes but Delhi finally fell short by 7 runs and thus KXIP kept the chances to advance into playoffs alive.

Mumbai Indians Beat Rajasthan Royals To Regain Top Spot

Result – Mumbai Indians won by 14 runs

Today in the 66th match of IPL Season 6, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and invited Mumbai to bat first. Mumbai rested injured Tendulkar and opened with Glenn Maxwell and Aditya Tare and the duo added 25 in 3.1 overs before Maxwell got out after scoring 17 balls 23. Aditya Tare and Dinesh Karthik then continued the good run and took the team score to 101. Karthik was the next to fall as he got out after scoring 21 ball 21. Aditya Tare completed his half century before getting out for 37 ball 59 but had laid a solid platform for the upcoming batsmen. Rohit Sharma and last match hero Kieron Pollard scored quickfire 14 and 17 respectively and 7 ball 15 by Harbhajan Singh helped Mumbai post a total of 166/8 in 20 overs.

Chasing 169 to win, Royals got off to the worst possible start as they lost captain Dravid in the very first over when the team score was just 5. James Faulkner and Ajinkya Rahane then took the score to 22 and then James got out after scoring 12. With this fall, Mumbai bowlers tightened the grip and got the priced wicket of man in form Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson in quick succession. Royals were struggling at 28/4 in 5.4 overs and needed the magic of Stuart Binny and Shane Watson. The duo raised some hopes as they took the score past 50 but a mistimed shot by Watson lead to his fall leaving Royals at 58/5 in 9.1 overs. The required run rate kept increasing and the pressure was clearly seen on Rajasthan batsmen. Stuart Binny remained unbeaten on 37 and the cameo of 39 in 27 by Brad Hodge raised hopes but with the wicket of Hodge, it was all over for Royals and finally they fell short of total by 14 runs.

With this win, Mumbai regained the top spot in points table which they lost to Chennai after Chennai registered a win in their last encounter.
