Match 53 Rajasthan Royals Shown Door By Kolkata Knight Riders

Match: 53 T20, IPL3
Venue: Eden Gardens, Kolkata
Date: April 17, 2010
Toss: Rajasthan Royals elected to bat.

Result: Kolkata Knight Riders won by 8 wickets.

Rajasthan Royals out of IPL 2010

In a must win match for both teams, Rajasthan Royals won the tos and elected to bat first. Rajasthan Royals got off to a very good start with S Watson and N Ojha scoring 59 for the first wicket partnership. Once Watson was out, Rajasthan Royals lost the track and kept loosing wickets at regular intervals. Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers never gave them any opportunity to score easy runs. Rajasthan Royals middle order collapsed badly leaving them tottering at 101/5 in 14.2 overs. Kolkata Knight Riders bowler produced a much better spell today even in the last overs to limit Rajasthan Royals to a total of !@!@#$ in 20 overs.

After restricting the Royals to a petty total, it was upto Kolkata Knight Riders batsmen to win today’s match and raise hope for semi finals. KKR opened with McCullum and Ganguly but this time they could not give a good start as McCullum was out for just 6. In the very same over, KKR got another shock as Gayle was out for a duck leaving them at 22/2 in 2.5 overs. Ganguly(75 not out) and Pujara(45 not out) then played sensibly and took the score past 100. Dada again lead from the front and scored a brilliant fifty to help Kolkata Knight Riders win by 8 wickets and thus closer to semi final spot.

This is the end of road for Rajasthan Royals in this edition of DLF IPL 2010.

How can Kolkata Knight Riders qualify for semi finals ?
1) Kings XI beat Chennai Super Kings
2) Delhi beat Deccan Chargers
3) Kolkata Knight Riders win against Mumbai by a huge margin.

Match 52 Mumbai Indians Thrash Royal Challengers By 57 Runs

Match: 52nd T20, IPL3
Venue: Bangalore
Date: April 17, 2010
Toss: Royal Challengers elected to field
Result: Mumbai Indians won by 57 runs
Man of the match: R McLaren

Today, the match was delayed due to a low intensity blast but after a security check, the match started and Mumbai Indians were invited to bat first. They got off to a slow start and lost the priced wicket of Sachin Tendulkar when the score was 34 in 6 overs. A Rayudu and R McLaren then broke the shackles and took the score past 100. A Rayudu played a superb cameo of 46 runs off just 27 balls and gave the necessary acceleration to Mumbai Indians innings. When A Rayudu got out, Pollard came like a storm to score 20 runs off just 7 balls. Kumble got the wicket of Pollard and hoped that this would slow down the run rate but JP Duminy was in no mood to let RCB go so easily. He hammered the bowlers to all corners of the ground and scored 42 not out off just 19 balls. Due to a combined team effort, Mumbai Indians despite a slow start could set a huge score of 191/4 in 20 overs.

Chasing 192 to win, Royal Challengers Bangalore started off cautiously and scored 30 runs for the first wicket partnership. But once Manish Pandey got out, the wickets started to fell. K Pietersen tried to stabilize the innings but was eventually out for 21. Chasing 193 was never easy and with all the top order batsmen back in pavilion, it became an impossible task for RCB. Virat Kohli did offered some resistance but that too was too little and too late. Eventually RCB lost the match by 57 runs. Mumbai Indians had taken the loss revenge and that too in an emphatic style.

Match Notes

* Mumbai Indians: 50 runs in 8.2 overs, Extras 5
* Mumbai Indians: 100 runs in 12.4 overs, Extras 12
