Semi Final 2 Chennai Super Kings Thrash Deccan Charger To Enter Finals

Match: 2nd semi-final T20, IPL3
Venue: DY Patil Stadium Mumbai
Date: April 22, 2010
Toss: Chennai Super Kings elected to bat
Result: Chennai Super Kings won by 38 runs

Today in the second semi final between Chennai Super Kings and Deccan Chargers, Chennai won the toss and elected to bat first. Once again Mathew Hayden failed to give CSK a good start and was out for just 8. The stars for Chennai so far, Murli Vijay and Suresh Raina also failed today and left Chennai reeling at 29/3 in 4.5 overs. Deccan Chargers bowlers gave them no room to hit the ball and bowled a very tight line and length. MS Dhoni and S Badrinath then played cautiously and took the score to 81, at which Dhoni got out after scoring 30 runs off 32 balls. Albie Morkel (4 runs) also got out cheaply and Chennai were in some serious problem with 5 batsmen out for just 96 runs on board. A Srikkanth (24 runs)then played some shots and took the score to 137. Finally CSK just managed to score 142/7 in 20 overs and now has to rely on his bowlers to save this match for them.

Deccan Chargers bowlers did a splendid job and restricted Chennai Super Kings for just 142. Deccan needed 143 to win and go to finals they opened the batting with Gilchrist and Gibbs. They both started off really cautiously and scored just 19 runs in 5 overs. Gilly again failed today and was out after scoring just 15 runs. Deccan lost T Suman also in the same over and were reduced to 23/2 in 5.5 overs. All hopes were on Rohit Sharma and Gibbs but the dreams of Deccan’s shattered as Rohit got out after scoring 2 runs leaving Deccan Chargers struggling at 31/3 in 7.2 overs. At the end of 10 overs they were 43/3 and needed 100 runs off last 10 overs. Chennai Super Kings surely had an upper hand at this stage. The bowlers didn’t let the side down and got two more wickets and reduced Deccan’s to 54/5 in 12.1 overs. The wickets were falling at regular interval and Deccan Chargers never looked comfortable against CSK bowlers. The batsmen let Deccan’s down today, Symonds was the top scorer with just 23 runs and thus they lost the match by a margin of 38 runs.

So now Chennai Super Kings will take on Mumbai Indians on the final on 25th April 2010 at DY Patil Stadium.

Man of the match – K Pollard

In the first semi final of DLF Indian Premier League 2010, Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first. All hopes were on Sachin Tendulkar and fans wished to see the blaster again in full flow, but this time millions of hopes were dashed as the master blaster could not give Mumbai a good start and was out for just 9. The other opener, Shikhar Dhawan also got out for just 12 and Mumbai were 29/2 in 3.4 overs. Nayar and Rayadu then got into a 39 run partnership and took the score to 68. Mumbai then lost Nayar (22 runs) and JP Duminy (3 runs) in space of 7 balls and it looked Royal Challenger Bangalore are in control of the game. But then Saurabh Tiwary and A Rayudu played well and took the score close to 150. A Rayudu (40 runs) was the next to get out but his wicket proved to be a blessing in disguise for Mumbai as it brought Pollard (33 runs) and Saurabh Tiwary (52 runs) in the center. They both then fired all cylinders and when it looked Mumbai could post 160 or so, they both scored 34 runs in last 2 overs to post a decent total of 184/5 in 20 overs.

Royal Challengers started with R Dravid and J Kallis. Kallis, the man in form for RCB got out for just 11 and RCB were 24/1 in 2.4 overs. Kevin Pietersen and R Dravid then tried to bring RCB back on track, Harbhajan Singh got the wicket of Kevin Pietersen (19 runs) and thus reduced Royal Challengers to 47/2 in 6.2 overs. Rahul Dravid and Robin Uthapa were at the center and they both scored runs at good run rate and took the score to 81/2 in 9 overs. The 10th over changed the game as Royal Challengers lost 2 wickets in this over and were reduced to 81/4. Dravid and Uthapa both were back in pavilion and Mumbai Indians were back in the game. K Pollard was the star for Mumbai Indians, earlier in batting he played a cameo of 33 runs off just 13 balls and then while bowling he took 3 crucial wickets to knock Royal Challengers Bangalore out of DLF IPL – 3. RCB were 109/6 in 14 overs and needed another 76 runs from 36 balls. Mumbai bowlers then kept RCB batsmen in total control and were finally able to win today’s 1st semi final with a convincing margin of 35 runs.

Semi Final-1 Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

Today is the first semi final of DLF IPL 2010 between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The match is to be played at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai at 8pm today. This is a knockout match i.e. the team which looses will be out of the League. Mumbai captain Sachin Tendulkar is hopeful of the team’s performance and will wish that Mumbai forgets about last match against KKR and get back to the winning streak. Mumbai has played superbly in this season of Indian Premier League and were the first team to qualify for the semi finals. They have won 10 off the 14 matches and are far ahead of all other teams in terms of points, but today none of that matters. Royal Challengers know that on a given day, it can be anyone’s game. RCB has defeated Mumbai earlier in group match and would like to repeat that performance today.

Fans of both teams would be cheering for their teams and would hope that the teams don’t falter at this crucial stage. The man to watch out today from Mumbai will be Sachin Tendulkar who has amazed one and all with his performance in this season. On the other hand Royal Challengers Bangalore have also played excellent cricket in this tournament and would be hoping that today the team effort will once again see them through to the finals.

We have fingers crossed today and lets hope may the best team wins.
