Match -8th DLF IPL T20, IPL5 2012
Date – April 8, 2012
Time – 8:00 pm i.e 14:30 GMT | 20:00 IST
Venue – Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, Pune
Toss – Pune Warriors have elected to bat first
Result – Pune Warriors won by 22 runs
Today in the 8th match of DLF IPL Season 5, Pune Warriors won the toss and elected to bat first. They got to a good start with captain Ganguly and J Ryder putting on 28 runs at 7 runs per over for the first wicket partnership. Pune Warriors lost both openers in the same over and it restricted their run rate. A partnership was required and thats exactly what M Samuels and R Uthappa provided. The duo took on to Kings XI bowlers and played sensible cricket to take the score past 100. In the 15th over M Samuels got out after scoring 46 runs off 39 balls which included 4 fours and 2 sixes, soon followed by C Ferguson and Robin Uthappa (40 runs off 33 balls which included 2 fours and 2 sixes). This sudden fall of wickets did not deter Smith who along with Pandey scored 27 runs in the 19th over and helped the team to cross the 150 run mark. Smith’s (25 off 12 balls which included 3 sixes) and MK Pandey’s cameo of 12 runs off 3 balls ( 1×4 1×6) helped Pune post a healthy total of 166/6 in 20 overs.
Chasing 167 to win the match, Kings XI lost both openers P Valthaty and A Gilchrist when team score was just 9. Reeling at 9/2 in 3.2 overs, the middle order had a daunting task in hand, the required rate was jumping with each passing over and at the end of 10 overs, KXIP were 53/3 and still needed another 114 to win. All hopes were on David Hussey but he got out after scoring just 18 and with his wicket, it was almost all over for the Kings XI Punjab. P Chawla (16 runs 8 balls 2×4 1×6) and Bipul Sharma played some good shots but it was too little too late for KXIP as they needed 45 runs of last 2 overs. Finally they could manage just 144/8 in 20 overs and hence lost the match by 22 runs.

Today’s Match Details – Rajasthan Royals vs Kolkata Knight Riders
Match -7th DLF IPL T20, IPL5 2012
Date – April 8, 2012
Time – 4:00 pm i.e 10:30 GMT | 16:00 IST
Venue – Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur
Toss – Kolkata Knight Riders elected to field
Result – Rajasthan Royals won by 22 runs
Chasing 165 to win, Kolkata Knight Riders got off to the worst start possible and lost J Kallis,G Gambhir and B McCullum in three consecutive deliveries when the team score was just 8. At 8/3 in 2.1 overs, KKR were in dire needs of a partnership. Manoj Tiwary and D Das were at the center and they took the score to 25 when D Das was bowled by Cooper. KKR were reeling at 25/4 in 5.4 overs and victory looked a distant dream. Manoj Tiwary and Y Pathan then played sensibly and took the team score past 50. Just when it looked that KKR are back on track for the run chase, Yousuf Pathan got out leaving KKR struggling at 66/5 in 10.2 overs. KKR needed 88 to win from last 8 overs and had 5 wickets in hand and Manoj Tiwary single handily tried to take his team towards victory as he scored a brilliant (59 off 49balls, 7×4 0x6) but his efforts went to vain as the required rate was way too high for KKR and they could manage 142/10 in 20 overs, thereby losing the match by 22 runs.
Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to field first. Rajasthan Royals got off to a poor start as the last match’s star A Rahane was run out for a duck leaving RR at 1/1 in 1.3 overs. R Dravid and S Goswami then took the team score to 44 when again run out lead to wicket of Dravid who departed after scoring 26 off 24 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. Having lost both openers and that too via run out, RR looked in some trouble and needed a partnership going. But soon S Goswami was also bowled leaving RR at 61/3 in 8.4 overs. A Menaria and B Hodge then steadied the innings and the duo took RR score past 100 in the 14th over. They both lashed on every bowler and scored runs freely. B Hodge was particularly severe on bowlers as he scored 44 runs in 29 balls which included 3 fours and 2 sixes. After he got out, O Shah came to the center and started hitting the ball in all directions. It was some fine hitting of Hodge, Shah and Menaria which helped Rajasthan Royals post a total of 164/5 in 20 overs.
