Match 37 – Chennai Super Kings Win By 7 Wickets Against Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals Innings
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to bat first. But they lost Ojha on a duck but then Smith and Asnodkar played some good shots and took the score pass 50 run mark. It looked a good start for Rajasthan Royals but once they lost Smith and Asnodkar, the middle order fell like cards. None of the batsmen could score some fast runs so that a good total can be set for Chennai Super Kings and in the end it was 140/7 in 20 overs.

Chennai Super Kings Innings
Chasing a target of 141, Chennai Super Kings lost two wickets for just 37 runs in 6 overs. But Hayden and Badrinath played sensibly and scored runs with ease. They both hammered the bowlers to all corners and it looked that Chennai Super Kings would win the match easily. This exactly happened and due to 48 runs by Hayden and 59 by Badrinath, Chennai Super Kings registered a 7 wicket win.

Match 33 – Rajasthan Royals Won By 7 Wickets Against Bangalore Royal Challengers

Date – May 7, 2009
Result – Rajasthan Royals won by 7 wickets

Bangalore Royal Challengers Innings
Bangalore Royal Challengers were invited to bat first by Rajasthan Royals and this decision of Rajasthan Royals proved to be very fruitful as right from the first over, Bangalore Royal Challengers batsmen were very uncomfortable in front of Rajasthan’s bowlers. In the third over, Bangalore Royal Challengers lost the first wicket in form of Jaffer and this started the wicket falling effect. Every batsmen came to center played 1-2 shots and got out. None of the Bangalore Royal Challengers batsmen could cross 20 run mark and this was the main reason they were all out for just 105 runs

Rajasthan Royals Innings
After reducing Bangalore for a small total, Rajasthan Royals started off well and scored runs with ease. Smith was the first to get out but not before he scored 20 runs. Ojha on the other end stood to the bowlers and scored a half century and remained unbeaten till end. The chase was really easy and Rajasthan Royals did it with comfortably with 5 overs spare.

Match – 30 Rajasthan Royals Rip Apart Kings XI Punjab

Date – May 5, 2009
Result – Rajasthan Royals won by 78 runs

Rajasthan Royals Innings
Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to field first. Rajasthan Royals opener Ojha (68 runs 51 balls 4*5, 6*5) and Smith (77runs 44 balls 4*12, 6*1) came to open the innings and right from the first over they smashed all bowlers. This was one of the best batting performance by any team in IPL and was the first time any team crossed 200 run mark in IPL-2. Smith was particularly severe on bowlers and both openers scored 135 runs for first wicket stand. Smith got out in the 15th over, bringing Yusuf to crease. He scored just 12 runs and was the second one to get out. Jadeja played a cameo of 33 runs in 12 balls ( 4*5, 1*6).
In the end Rajasthan Royals scored 211/4 in 20 overs.

Kings XI Punjab
Kings XI Punjab started the innings on a disastrous note and lost the wicket on the very first bowl of the innings. Chasing a target of 212, they needed a solid start but this could not happen and they kept loosing wickets at regular intervals. The pressure of high run rate kept mouting and the batsmen kept loosing the nerve and Kings XI Punjab were reduced to 53/5 in 10 overs. The match looked out of the reach and Kings XI Punjab could manage only 133/8 in 20 overs and thus suffered a humiliating defeat by 78 runs.

Match – 25 Rajasthan Royals Defeated Deccan Chargers By Three Wickets

Date – May 2, 2009
Result – Rajasthan Royals won by 3 Wickets

This was one of the most sensational IPL match in which Rajasthan Royals holed on to the nerves and clinched the victory.

Deccan Chargers Innings
After winning the toss, Hyderabad elected to bat first.Gibbs got out early but some good performance by Gilchrist, Suman and Sharma enabled them to score 141/5 in alloted 20 overs.

Rajasthan Royals Innings
Rajasthan Royals got the worst start any team could get in a match and lost 3 wickets when the team score was just 3. So from 3/3 it looked Rajasthan Royals would loose this match but a sensational performance by Shilpa Shetty’s team proved once again that cricket results can not be anticipated. After the top order failure, it was the middle order which came to the team’s rescue and each batsmen played an important role in this victory. Once again when the run rate was increasing, Yusuf Pathan came to the center and played a cameo. His batting along with good performances from Shane Warne, Carseldine and Raut helped them defeat Deccan Chargers. Also some sloppy fielding by Deccan Chargers helped them win this match in the last over.

Match 22 – Rajasthan Royals vs Chennai Super Kings

Date – Apr 30, 2009
Result – Chennai won by 38 runs

Chennai Super Kings Innings
Chennai Super Kings were put to bat first after Rajasthan Royals won the toss. The hard hitter Mathew Hayden failed this time and was the first to return back to pavilion when the team score was just 4. Soon Patel followed and Chennai Super Kings were 17/2 in 3.3 overs. Suresh Raina came to the center and played some exquisite strokes. He along with Badrinath took the score to 84 when Badrinath was out. Raina continued his superb batting and scored 98 runs( 4*10, 6*5) in just 55 balls. Dhoni also scored 22 runs and was not out till end. It was Raina’s heroic efforts that lead to a total score of 164/5 in 20 overs.

Rajasthan Royals Innings
Chasing a total of 165, Rajasthan Royals lost first wicket at just 9 runs in form of G Smith. They did not had recovered from early wicket that they lost another wicket when the team score was just 29. Fall of wickets continued at regular interval and Chennai Super King got a major wicket in form of Yusuf Pathan and Rajasthan Royals were reduced to 86/4 in 13th over. This triggered the loss of wickets and not a single batsmen could take charge and thus eventually Chennai won by 38 runs.
