Today in the 59th match of IPL Season 6, Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to field first. Parthiv Patel and Shikhar Dhawan opened the innings for Sunrisers and added 28 runs in 4.1 overs before Dhawan got out. Hanuma Vihari also fell cheaply for 5 leaving Sunrisers at 33/2 in 5.2 overs. Parthiv Patel stood firm on one end though three wickets fell in the span of 6 balls. From 33/2 Sunrisers slipped to 52/5 in 8.4 overs. Patel completed his half century and scored 61 before getting run out and a quickfire 22 by Karan Sharma and a cameo of 32 by Thisara Perera helped Sunrisers post a total of 150/7 in 20 overs.

Chasing 151 to win, KXIP lost Mandeep Singh in the very first over when the score was just 1. Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh then added 44 runs before Marsh got out after scoring 18 of 20 balls. Some tight bowling by Sunrisers never allowed KXIP batsmen to free their arms and with the pressure on increasing run rate, the batting order started to crumble. KXIP were reduced to 51/4 in 9.4 overs. Hopes were raised for KXIP when Luke Pomersbach and Rajagopal Sathish started to get going as the duo added 51 runs in 7.1 overs and took the score to 102. The match looked to be poised for an interesting finish but Sunrisers bounced back with the wicket of Rajagopal Sathish. With his fall, the downfall started for KXIP and from 102/5 in 16.5 overs, KXIP could manage to score just 18 runs in last 3.1 over and thus managed to score 120/9 in 20 overs thereby loosing the match by 30 runs.

Wriddhiman Saha and Michael Hussey added 27 runs for the first wicket stand before Wriddhiman Saha got out. With this, Suresh Raina came to the center and he took total control of the situation. He along with M Hussey added 55 runs before Hussey got out after scoring 35 in 29 balls. But there was no stopping by for Suresh Raina who hammered every KXIP bowler. He continued to score a brilliant 53 ball 100 which included 7 fours and 6 sixes. Though MS Dhoni was run out for just 2 but Raina and Albie Morkel then took the team to a decent 186/4 in 20 overs.

Chasing 187 to create an upset, Kings XI Punjab lost opener Luke Pomersbach in the second over when the team score was just 13. Mandeep Singh also got out after scoring 15 leaving the team at 36/2 in 6 overs. Shaun Marsh then took center stage and built an innings along with first David Hussey and then David Miller. Shaun Marsh scored 73 off 51 balls and maintained KXIP’s hopes for a win. After his wicket, David Miller continued from where he had left and kept the hopes alive. Needing 19 to win from last over, KXIP lost the plot as three wickets fell in that over and finally they could manage to post 171/6 in 20 overs.
