Match 53 Kolkata Knight Riders vs Rajasthan Royals Preview

At Eden’s Kolkata 8pm fans will witness a nail biting encounter between two teams which are desperate to win and then hope to get a spot in semi final on the virtue of net run rate. Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Rajasthan Royals in a must win situation for both teams. Royals have 12 points from 13 games where as KKR have 10 points from 12 games and thus if KKR win today’s match, Royals would be out for the race as they are playing the last match in group stage today. On the other hand KKR will then have one more opportunity when they take on Mumbai Indians on 19th April.

The way points table is poised at this moment, it looks a real hard battle for the spot in semi finals. Rajasthan Royals would have to play extraordinary today to make sure they win today and get 14 points and then wait for other teams performances which will decide the net run rate.

Whole of the Kolkata would be praying for Tiger of Bengal – Saurav Ganguly and fan’s would be waiting for this match eagerly today.

Suresh Storm Renders Kolkata Knight Riders Helpless

Result: Chennai Super Kings won by 9 wickets

Today in the 48th match of DLF IPL, Kolkata Knight Riders won the tos and elected to bat first. Gayle and Ganguly opened the innings but today, they could not give a good start. Gayle, Ganguly and McCullum all got out when the team score was just 17. David Hussey also got out for a duck and Kolkata Knight Riders were in a serious problem at 19/4 in 4 overs. Manoj Tiwary and Angela Mathews then played cautiously and took the score to 92 in the 15th over. A poor show by the top order effected the run rate and Kolkata Knight Riders could only post 139/8 in 20 overs thanks to 48 by Angela Mathews and 17 by Luxmi Ratan Shukla.

Chasing a small total of 139 to win, Chennai Super Kings lost Hayden for a duck in the very first over. But then Suresh Raina came to center and changed the whole scenario. He along with M Vijay took CSK to an easy victory.Both batsmen scored 50’s and took Chennai Super Kings to an easy win by 9 wickets. But the star for CSK was Suresh Raina who scored 78 runs at a crucial time and took the team to number two spot. With today’s loss KKR are almost out of semi’s race.

Royal Challengers Defeated Kolkata Knight Riders By 7 Wickets

Toss: Royal Challengers elected to field.
Result: Royal Challengers won by 7 wickets

After wining the toss, Royal Challengers invited Kolkata Knight Riders to bat. Kolkata Knight Riders opened the innings with Saurav Ganguly and Christ Gayle. The duo again gave them a perfect start and scored 52 runs for first wicket partnership. After Gayle’ wicket, Ganguly and McCullum took on the RCB bowlers and scored 100 in the 11th over. Ganguly was soon out for 33 and this changed the whole game. The priced wicket of Ganguly opened the opportunity door for Royal Challengers and they came back very strongly. Kolkata Knight Riders middle order failed miserably and from 103/2 they were 155/9. The last 5 overs were totally in favor of Royal Challengers and they might even be responsible for winning or loosing. Kolkata Knight Riders could score only 36 runs in last 5 overs and lost 5 wickets to finally post a total of 160/9 in 20 overs.

Royal Challengers did a superb job in bowling and now it was the batsmen turn to show the class and win today’s match. Chasing 161 to win and move further close to the place in semi’s, Royal Challengers lost Kallis earlier but S Sriram and R Dravid then played well to take the team score past 50. Sriram was the next to get out after scoring 27 when the team score was 83/2 in 11.4 overs. Dravid scored a good 52 and was out after taking the team score to 102 in 13.2 overs. Royal Challengers needed 51 to win in last 6 overs and had 7 wickets in hand. Uthappa then unleashed and scored quick fire 52 runs off just 22 balls to take Royal Challangers to a 7 wickets victory.

On the other hand, RCB has lost the last match but still are sitting at 4th spot in points table. A defeat today will bring them down in points table and thus they need to win today to save the place. Kolkata Knight Riders would go all out to ensure they win today and move up in the points table and keep alive the hopes of millions of fans who wish to see them in the semi’s.

So today’s match is expected to be a thriller in which two of the best players of India, Ganguly and Kumble will fight to show supremacy.
