Chennai Super Kings Innings

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to bat first. Though badrinath got out for a duck but on the other end Hayden was at his best today and he along with Raina and Dhoni made the mockery of Kings XI bowlers. M Hayden scored 89 runs in 58 balls ( 4*8 , 6*6). Dhoni also scored a half century (56 runs 27 balls 4*7, 6*2) and guided Chennai Super Kings to a healthy score of 185/3 in 18 overs as match was reduced due to rain.

Kings XI Punjab Innings
Chasing a mammoth target, Kings XI Punjab’s batsmen played really well and scored runs freely. At one moment it looked they would be able to win the match. Katich, Yuvraj and Jayawardene played very useful innings but in the end they could manage only 174/3 in 18 overs and it was via D/L Chennai Super Kings were declared the winners.

Match – 29 Chennai Super Kings Won By 78 Runs Against Deccan Chargers

Date – May 4, 2009
Result – Chennai Super Kings won by 78 runs

Chennai Super Kings Innings
Mahinder Singh Dhoni of Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to bat first. Right from the first over, Chennai Super Kings showed the intentions and scored runs freely. Mathew Hayden and opened the batting and give a perfect start to Chennai Super Kings. After the fall of first wicket, the run rate did not reduced and Chennai Super Kings scored runs with ease. Dhoni was at his best today and completed his half century and remained unbeaten till end. All the batsmen of Chennai Super Kings contributed and helped Chennai Super Kings post a total of 178/3 in alloted 20 overs.

Deccan Chargers Innings
Deccan Chargers got the worst possible start they could have imagined in the wildest dreams. They lost Gilchrist the very first ball and in the second over they lost Gibbs.Laxman also got out in the third over. These three batsmen failed to even open the account and got ducks. Deccan Chargers were reeling at 1/3 in 2.2 overs. It looked impossible for them to win the match but Smith showed some hope by playing a cameo of 49 runs in just 23 balls. But once again Jakati bowled a wonderful spell and took 4 wickets to reduce Deccan Chargers to 100 all out.

Match – 26 Chennai Super Kings Defeated Delhi Daredevils By 18 Runs

Date – May 2, 2009
Result – Chennai won by 18 runs

Chennai Super Kings Innings
Delhi Daredevils won the toss and elected to field first.The decision didnt proved to be successful as Chennai Super Kings got to a very good start. Hayden and Vijay punished each bowler and scored freely. But both these batsmen got out in a very short span of time and this brough Raina to the crease. Continuing from where he left in the last innings, Raina blasted some quick runs along with Badrinath and took the score past 100. In an attempt to further increase the run rate, Chennai Super Kings batsmen lost wickets quickly but not before they posted a good total of 163/10 in 20 overs.

Delhi Daredevils Innings
Chasing a target of 164, the got a moderate start. But wickets falling at regular interval was the main problem for Delhi Daredevils.S Jakati was the bowler who wrecked through Delhi batting line and took 4 wickets. Though Warner and Karthik scored half centuries each but still in the last overs they could not get a batsmen who could smash the ball all around to clinch victory.Delhi Daredevils managed 145/8 in 20 overs.

Match 22 – Rajasthan Royals vs Chennai Super Kings

Date – Apr 30, 2009
Result – Chennai won by 38 runs

Chennai Super Kings Innings
Chennai Super Kings were put to bat first after Rajasthan Royals won the toss. The hard hitter Mathew Hayden failed this time and was the first to return back to pavilion when the team score was just 4. Soon Patel followed and Chennai Super Kings were 17/2 in 3.3 overs. Suresh Raina came to the center and played some exquisite strokes. He along with Badrinath took the score to 84 when Badrinath was out. Raina continued his superb batting and scored 98 runs( 4*10, 6*5) in just 55 balls. Dhoni also scored 22 runs and was not out till end. It was Raina’s heroic efforts that lead to a total score of 164/5 in 20 overs.

Rajasthan Royals Innings
Chasing a total of 165, Rajasthan Royals lost first wicket at just 9 runs in form of G Smith. They did not had recovered from early wicket that they lost another wicket when the team score was just 29. Fall of wickets continued at regular interval and Chennai Super King got a major wicket in form of Yusuf Pathan and Rajasthan Royals were reduced to 86/4 in 13th over. This triggered the loss of wickets and not a single batsmen could take charge and thus eventually Chennai won by 38 runs.

Match 16 – Deccan Chargers vs Chennai Super Kings

Date – Apr 27, 2009
Result – Deccan Chargers Win by 6 Wickets

Chennai Super Kings Innings
Deccan Chargers won the toss and elected to field first on this new pitch with a hope of taking some initial wickets. Though they claimed Parthiv Patel in very first order but the hope were ruined by some sensational batting by Mathew Hayden and Suresh Raina. Together they took the score past 50 and it looked they were upto a very high score. But then Raina got out and this brought Dhoni to the crease. With high score in mind, both Dhoni and Hayden started hitting the loose balls to fence and scoring ones and two’s at ease. Ojha was brought to the attack and he got rid of both Dhoni and Hayden in same over to shatter the hopes of Chennai Super Kings. But Jacob Oram played some huge shots and took the score pass 150 and in the end of alloted 20 overs, they scored 165/6.

Deccan Chargers Innings
When Gilchrist and Gibbs are the openers of any team, you can expect fireworks from the very first ball and this is what actually happened today in the 16th match of IPL. Chasing a target of 166, they both smashed the balls to every corner of the ground and the Chennai Super Kings bowler were looking helpless. After all the main bowlers failed, it was Raina who took the priced scalp of Gilly when the team score was 67 in the 6th over. But the damage was already done.Though Raina got another wicket of Laxman soon but still the chase was on and the total looked to low with each shot played by Gibbs. Rohit Sharma and Smith contributed some useful runs but in the end it was Gibbs show and he took his team to victory in the last over.
