In an exciting IPL game, Yusuf Pathan powered Kolkata Knight Riders to an emphatic 4 wicket win. They won within 15.2 overs and thus made sure they have two shots at the final as they have displaced CSK as number two team in IPL points table.

Chasing 161 to win, Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a flying start with Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir adding43 runs in 4.4 overs for the first wicket stand. But with the fall of Gambhir, the scoring rate dipped but KKR slowly and steadily were getting close to their target. The real star for KKR was Yusuf Pathan who not only made sure his team won but won within those 15.2 overs to improve their net run rate and move ahead of Chennai in points table. When Yusuf came to the crease KKR needed 106 from 47 balls and it looked highly impossible for them. But Pathan was in full flow today and was supported by the poor fielding and drop catches by Hyderbad. Pathan was given more than 2 chances and he made the full use of it. He hammered the fastest IPL fifty in just 15 balls and his total of 72 of 22 balls ( 5 fours and 7 sixes) helped his team win by 4 wickets.

Earlier KKR won the toss and elected to field first. SRH lost opener David Warner on the second ball of the innings as he was bowled by Morkel. But Shikhar Dhawan and Naman Ojha took took charge and took the score to 69 in 8 overs when Ojha became the victim of Doeschate. Though wickets kept falling at regular intervals but runs kept coming. Every middle order batsmen contributed and helped Sunrisers Hyderabad post a total of 160/7 in 20 overs

Match – 53rd IPL 2014 Chennai Super Kings Beat Royal Challengers Bangalore To Finish Second In Points Table

Chennai Super Kings ended their league stage on a positive note today as they defeated RCB by 8 wickets to finish second in points table.

Chasing 155 to win, Chennai Super Kings got off to a flying start with Dwayne Smith and Faf du Plessis adding 57 runs in 4.2 overs for the first wicket stand. Dwayne Smith was the first to fall after scoring 34 in 17 balls. Suresh Raina came to the center and scored 18 off 18 balls before MS Dhoni came to the center and smashed every bowler out of park. Dhoni’s cameo of 49 in 28 balls and Faf du Plessis unbeaten 54 off 42 helped CSK register an emphatic 8 wicket win over RCB.

Earlier Chennai won the toss and invited RCB to bat. Royal Challengers Bangalore got off to a poor start as they lost opener Rilee Rossouw on the fifth ball of the innings when the team score was just 2. Yogesh Takawale and Vijay Zol also fell cheaply and RCB were struggling at 33/3 in 5.4 overs. Captain Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh then steadied the innings and added 55 runs in 8.2 overs. Kohli played superbly for his 49 ball 73 and helped RCB post a total of 154/6 in 20 overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders who are on a roll with six consecutive wins will be hoping to make it seven today and move up to the second spot in points table. On the other hand, its a do or die match for Sunrisers Hyderabad. If SRH loses today, they will be out of this season but if they win, they will be tied on 14 points with Rajasthan Royals. If this happens, the Sunday match between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians will be an all important match as it will seal the fate of three teams – Rajsthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians as then the net run rate will decide the fourth team to qualify for the IPL 2014 playoffs.

Rajasthan Royals lost to Kings XI Punjab today and thus lost their chance to assure a place in playoffs. Now they need to beat Mumbai Indians on Sunday to make it to the playoffs. On the other hand, KXIP have extended their lead and will be the table toppers.

Chasing 180 to win and make sure they qualify for playoffs, Rajasthan Royals openers Ajinkya Rahane and Karun Nair added 21 runs after which Nair became victim of Balaji. Rahane and Sanju Samson then took the score past 50 and just when the duo looked settled Rishi Dhawan came to bowl and got the priced wicket of Rahane and Shane Watson on consecutive balls. Royals were reduced to 56/3 in 8.2 overs. Sanju Samson and Stuart Binny had a huge responsibility on their shoulders but excellent bowling by KXIP never allowed them easy runs. Stuart Binny fell after scoring just 7 to Karanveer who also accounted for Sanju Samson (30 off 29 bals). Royals were struggling at 83/5 in 13.1 overs and needed some one to play a cameo. Brad Hodge and James Faulkner came to the team’s rescue and gave a scare to KXIP. Hodge scoed 31 in 18 balls before falling to Patel where as James Faulkner scored 35 off 13 balls and kept Royals in the hunt. But finally Royals needed 31 runs from the last over which proved to too much and they got down fighting and scored 163/8 and thus lost the match by 16 runs.

Earlier Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to field. Kings XI Punjab openers, Virender Sehwag and Manan Vohra added 24 runs in 2.2 overs for the first wicket stand. Sehwag was the first to go after scoring 18 off 8 balls. Vohra and Marsh then took the team score past 50. On the score of 54, Vohra got run out after scoring 25. Shaun Marsh and Wriddhiman Saha then added 59 runs in 6.4 overs to take the score to 113. Marsh was the next to fall after scoring 35 ball 40. Saha, Miller and Bailey chipped in with useful 27, 29 and 26 respectively to help KXIP post a total of 179/4 in 20 overs.
