Match – 7th IPL 2014 – Glenn Maxwell and David Miller Spoil Rajasthan Royals Party as Kings XI Punjab Won by 7 Wickets

Match – 7th IPL 2014 – Rajasthan Royals vs Kings XI Punjab
Date – Sun Apr 20
Time – 18:30 local | 14:30 GMT
Venue – Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium, Sharjah
Toss – Kings XI Punjab elected to field
Result – Kings XI Punjab won by 7 wickets

A superb innings of 89 in 45 balls (8×4,6×6) by Glenn Maxwell along with the firecrackers in the final overs by David Miller (51 off 19 balls, 0x4, 6×6) helped Kings XI Punjab achieve yet another high score and register a comfortable win chasing 192. Kings XI Punjab got off to a poor start with Virender Sehwag getting out in the second over soon followed by Wriddhiman Saha. Kings XI Punjab were struggling at 10/2 in 2.4 overs and again needed the million dollar baby Glenn Maxwell to deliver. He proved why he is the most expensive player as he scored a brilliant 45 balls 89 to bring Kings XI Punjab on track of a successful chase. Once Maxwell got out, the focus shifted on Miller and he along with Cheteshwar Pujara who played a real good anchor took the Royal bowlers and blunted all attacks. David Miller hit 6 sixes in his 19 ball 51 and made sure that the target of 193 was achieved 8 balls to spare.

Earlier Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to field first. The decision was widely criticized by cricket experts as the pitch was a perfect batting track. The decision seemed to backfire as Rajasthan Royals got off to a flying start with the team crossing 50 in the sixth over. Despite both the openers being back in pavilion, Royals launched an all out attack with Shane Watson(50 off 29 balls, 5×4, 3×6) and Sanju Samson(52 off 34 balls, 3×4, 4×6) hitting boundaries and sixes at will. The duo added 74 in 7 overs and laid a solid platform for a huge total. A final onslaught by Steven Smith helped Rajasthan Royals post a total of 191/5 in 20 overs.

Gilchrist Says Goodbye To IPL on a Winning Note As Punjab Beat Mumbai By 50 Runs

Match 69 IPL 2013 – Kings XI Punjab vs Mumbai Indians
Date – Sat May 18
Time – 4:00 pm i.e 10:30 GMT | 16:00 IST
Venue – Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala
Toss – Mumbai Indians elected to field
Result – Kings XI Punjab won by 50 runs
Man of the match – Azhar Mahmood

Playing the last match in IPL, Adam Gilchrist signed off with a superb win and a maiden wicket of Harbhajan Singh.

Today in the 69th match of IPL 2013, Mumbai Indians won the toss and invited Kings XI Punjab to bat first. Openers Adam Gilchrist and Mandeep Singh failed to give KXIP a good start and both were back in the pavilion by the 3rd over. KXIP scorecard was reading at 6/2 in 2.2 overs and they needed someone to shoulder the responsibility to take their team to a respective total. Azhar Mahmood and Shaun Marsh then played superbly and steadied KXIP’s innings. They both completed half centuries and took the score past 150. Shaun Marsh got out after scoring a brilliant 47 ball 63 where as Azhar Mahmood scored 80 in 44 balls which included 8 fours and 4 sixes. Finally 20 in 8 balls by Manan Vohra helped KXIP post a good total of 183/8 in 20 overs.

Chasing 184 to win, Mumbai Indians lost Glenn Maxwell on the third ball of the innings for a duck. Aditya Tare and Ambati Rayudu then took the score to 27 before Tare got out after scoring 12 ball 22. Captain Rohit Sharma and Rayudu then took the team score past 50. Rayudu was the next to fall when the team score was 62 and with his wicket, Mumbai Indians lost the scoring momentum and were reduced to 78/5 in 12 overs. Again a magical innings was needed from Pollard to take his team to a sensational victory but he got out after scoring 22 off 21 balls and with his wicket, it was curtain down for Mumbai. Finally Mumbai managed to score 133/9 in 20 overs and thus lost the match by a huge margin of 50 runs.

Despite performing so well today, KXIP have already been shown the door from the league and Mumbai have already qualified for the playoffs. KXIP’s skipper Adam Gilchrist was playing his last match in IPL and to every one’s surprise, he bowled and got the wicket of Harbhajan Singh on the very first ball he bowled in IPL.
