In the 20th match of IPL 2013, Kolkata won the toss and elected to field first. Kings XI Punjab lost captain Gilchrist when the team score was 24 but Mandeep Singh and Manan Vohra took the team score past 50. Vohra’s wicket triggered a fall of wickets but Manpreet Gony came to the team’s rescue as he scored 42 off just 18 balls to help Punjab post a healthy total of 157/9 in 20 overs.

Chasing 158 to win, KKR lost Manvinder Bisla on the very first ball of the innings. Soon allrounder Jacques Kallis also got out leaving KKR struggling at 1/2 in 1.2 overs. But captain Gambhir and Eoin Morgan then played sensibly and took the score to 106 before Gambhir got out. KKR were placed comfortably at 106/3 in 13.1 overs and it looked like they could win the match easily but Kings XI bowlers had other plans. With the fall of Gambhir, the middle order crumbled like a peck of cards and from 106/3, the team could score just 153/9 in 20 overs and thus lostthe match by 4 runs.

Today in the 17th match of Pepsi IPL 2013, Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bat first. The opening pair of Manvinder Bisla and skipper Gautam Gambhir gave them the perfect start as they added 59 runs for first wicket partnership in 7.4 overs before Bisla got out. Skipper Gambhir continued to score yet another half century and got out after scoring 53 off 45 balls which included 6 fours and 1 six. Jacques Kallis and Eoin Morgan then continued from where the opening pair left as they scored 41 and 47 respectively to help KKR post a good total of 180/4 in 20 overs.

Chasing 181 to win, Parthiv Patel and Cameron White scored 57 runs in 9 overs for the first wicket stand before Patel got out after scoring 31 ball 27. This wicket triggered the wicket fall and Sunrisers middle order started to crumble under increasing run rate pressure. Thisara Perera showed some resistance but his knock of 36 was far too short of the target. Finally Sunrisers could score just 132/7 and thus lost the match by 48 runs.
