A superb batting performance by Kolkata Knight Riders helped them beat Delhi Daredevils by 8 wickets today at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground.

Chasing 161 to win, KKR got off to a flying start with both openers Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa adding 106 runs in 11.5 overs for the first wicket stand. Robin Uthappa was the the first to fall after scoring 47 off 34 balls but a foundation was laid for a easy run chase. Captain Gambhir and Manish Pandey (23 off 14 balls) then took the score past 150. Gambhir completed his well deserved half century and played a vital role in today’s win. He was unlucky to get out in the 18th over as he could not score the winnings runs but his 56 ball 69 made sure KKR win the match comfortably.

Earlier Delhi Daredevils won the toss and elected to bat first. They lost Quinton de Kock when the team score was just 14. Captain Kevin Pietersen failed again as he was run out for just 6. Delhi were struggling at 26/2 in 5.3 overs. Murli Vijay and Dinesh Karthik hen played sensibly and took the score past 50. KKR bowlers bowled superbly and never allowed the Delhi batsmen to free their hands till JP Duminy and Kedhar Jadav got into action. A cameo of 40 in 28 balls by JP Duminy and 15 ball 26 by Kedhar Jadhav helped Delhi post a total of 160/5 in 20 overs.

Today in the 28th match of Pepsi IPL Season 7, Delhi Daredevils will take on Kolkata Knight Riders at 4 pm Indian Standard Time. Delhi Daredevils who have lost both the matches played in India so far and now standing at the last position in points table. Result – Rajasthan Royals won by 10 runs

In a stunning display of bowling, Rajasthan Royals clinched the match by 10 runs when till the 15th over, it looked that Kolkata will comfortably win today’s match.

Tambe’s hat-trick and three wickets in a an over by Watson helped Royals win the match from a situation where they once looked completely out. KKR needed 171 to win and they got off to a flying start with both openers Robin Uthappa 65 off 52 balls and Captain Gambhir 54 of 34 balls adding 121 run for the first wicket stand. But then in the 15th over, Shane Watson came in to the attack and got three wickets to reduce KKR to 122/3. As if these blows were not to severe for KKR, Tambe got a hat-trick and reduced KKR to 123/6 and therefore losing the match by 10 runs.

Earlier Kolkata won the toss and elected to field. Rajasthan Royals got off to a good start with openers Ajinkya Rahane and Karun Nair adding 52 runs in 6.3 overs before Rahane was run out. Sanju Samson and Karun Nair then took the score past 100 and some good hitting by Shane Watson and Stuart Binny helped Royals post a decent total of 170/6 in 20 overs. All the top order batsmen got starts and contributed well towards the team total.

Match 21 – Chennai Super Kings Beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 34 Runs in Rain Curtailed Match

Reduced to 17 overs per side due to rain
Result – Chennai Super Kings won by 34 runs
Man of the match: Ravindra Jadeja

Chennai Super Kings continued their good run and won the rain curtailed match against Kolkata Knight Riders by 34 runs thanks to the superb all round performance by Ravindra Jadeja.

Chasing 149 to win, Kolkata Knight Riders never looked in the chase as they lost captain Gambhir in the third over when the team score was just 17. Soon Kallis also got out leaving KKR at 36/2 in 4.4 overs. A twin strike in the 6th over totally shattered KKR innings and they were struggling at 38/4 in 5.2 overs. Robin Uthappa and Yusuf Pathan were the only hopes and the duo scored 47 and 41 respectively but after their wickets, it was all over for KKR and they eventually lost the match by 34 runs.

Earlier Chennai won the toss and elected to bat first. Though they lost Dwayne Smith early but Brendon McCullum and Suresh Raina then played with ease and took the score to 90 in 10.4 overs befoer Raina got out. This brought Dhoni to the crease and his cameo of 22 along with superb 56 off 40 by Brendon McCullum helped CSK post a total of 148/3 in 17 overs.
