In a dream come true for the cricket lovers of Dharamsala, the 51th match of DLF Indian Premier League 2010 will be played today at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharmasala between Kings XI Punjab and Deccan Chargers. Defending champion Deccan Chargers are 6th in the points table and have to win the remaining both matches and then see how the net run rate changes for other teams. In this edition of IPL, only Mumbai Indians have made it to semi finals so far and the other three spots are open for all except Kings XI Punjab.

Today’s match would be a real entertainer as Kings XI Punjab are playing for pride and would do anything to make sure they knock out Deccan Chargers out of this year IPL edition where as Deccan Chargers are desperate to win and hope to qualify for the semi’s.

Result: Deccan Chargers won by 13 runs

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and elected to field first. They started well with pacer Dale Steyn striking twice in the very first over. He bowled a wonderful spell of 4 overs and claimed 3 wickets, Gilchrist and Gibbs the major ones. Deccan Chargers were struggling at 14/3 in 2.3 overs. Rohit Sharma and Monish Mishra then revived the innings with 82 runs fourth wicket partnership. Just when it looked that Deccan’s are getting back on track, M Mishra was run out leaving them at 96/4 in 12.3 overs. Symonds also failed to score fast runs and in the end only because of Rohit’s fifty, Deccan Chargers were able to score 151/6 in 20 overs.

Deccan Chargers had to win today’s match to stay alive for semi’s. The batsmen could put only 151 on board and now it rested on bowlers to save the match. They got Manish Pandey’s wicket on the very first ball of innings but after that Dravid and Kallis denied the bowlers and wickets and took the score to 74, Dravid was out for 49 but a strong platform was laid for Royal Challengers middle order to win today and secure a place in semi’s. But then the middle order fumbled and wickets started to fell in quickly. Middle order collapse changed the whole match dynamics. At one position it looked the match is tilting towards Royal Challengers but a superb comeback from Deccan Chargers bowlers helped them win today’s match by 13 runs and thus keep the hopes for semi’s alive.

After winning the toss, Chennai Super Kings decided to bat first today in the 42nd match of DLF IPL 2010. Hayden and M Vijay gave them a quick start and took the score to 41 before Hayden got out in 4.4 overs. Soon Vijay was also run out leaving Chennai Super Kings 64/2 in 7.5 overs. Chennai Super Kings had got a decent start but they could not capitalize on it. Once the openers were out, wickets started to fell at regular interval of time. Suresh Raina was the only batsmen who offered some resistance and scored a well deserved 52. None of the other middle order batsmen could even reach two figure score and thus Chennai Super Kings eventually could post only 138/8 in 20 overs.

Deccan Charger’s bowler did a splendid job in restricting Chennai Super Kings to 138 and now it was up to batsmen to win this match for them. The openers played cautiously but in the 5th over of innings, Deccan Chargers lost both the openers and were reduced to 35/2. T Suman then played responsibily and along with Rohit Sharma took the score to 61 when Sharma got out. Symonds and T Suman then steadied the innings and took score past 100. T Suman scored a brilliant 55 and laid a platform for Deccan’s victory. Finally Symonds and Dwayne Smith took the team to victory in the last over. This win over Chennai Super Kings by 6 wickets have now again opened the semi’s place for all.
