In a stunning display of batting, KXIP posted a huge total of 231/4 in 20 overs and then restricted CSK to 187/6 to win the match by 44 runs.

Chasing 231 was never going to be easy and needed a flying start but Chennai lost Dwayne Smith in the very first over. Though Raina and Brendon McCulllum put up a brave face and took the score past 50 in the 8th over but the asking rate kept mounting high and increased the pressure on CSK batting line up. Every CSK batsmen got a start but none could match the Maxwell performance to take the team to victory. Faf du Plessis played a brilliant 25 ball 52 runs inning but it was too little to late for CSK and eventually they could manage to score 187/6 in 20 overs in this high scoring game.

Earlier, Kings XI Punjab who were invited to bat first by CSK got off to a fast start as the openers Virender Sehwag and Mandeep Singh added 33 runs in 4.5 overs before Mandeep got out. Soon Sehwag too got out leaving KXIP at 38/2 in 5.2 overs. But this wicket changed the whole complexion of the game as it brought Glenn Maxwell and David Miller on the crease. The duo hammered every CSK bowler out of the park. Maxwell scored a brilliant 90 off just 38 balls(6×4, 8×6) where as Miller scored 32 ball 47 which included 5 fours and 2 sixes. Captain George Bailey also played a superb cameo of 40 in 13 balls(6×4, 2×6) to help KXIP post a huge total of 231/4 in 20 overs.

Today in the 29th match of Pepsi IPL 2014 and the second match of the day, Chennai Super Kings will take on Kings XI Punjab at 8 pm Indian Standard Time.

Chennai Super Kings who have displaced Kings XI Punjab from the top position of the points table will be hoping to keep their number 1 position intact where as KXIP will be looking to regain their top spot. KXIP who won all their 5 matches in the UAE leg lost their first match on Indian soil against Mumbai Indians. They will be hoping to repeat their UAE performance against CSK today.

On the other hand, CSK who started on a losing note but came back well and have won 6 matches in a row will be hoping to make it 7 today. CSK will also be seeking revenge of the defeat which they suffered at the hands of KXIP in UAE leg.

Chennai Super Kings continued their good run and thrashed Delhi Daredevils today by 8 wickets to maintain their number one spot in points table.

Chasing 179 to win, CSK got off to a flying start with openers Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum adding 82 runs for the first wicket partnership. Brendon McCullum was the first to fall after scoring 35 ball 32 when the team score was 82. But his wicket proved to be a blessing in disguise for CSK as Suresh Raina came to the crease and he lifted the scoring rate. He played delicately but scored 47 off 27 balls which included 6 fours and 1 six. On the other hand, Dwayne Smith was brutal in his attack and hit 8 sixes and 4 fours in his 51 ball 79. He got out in the 19th over but by the time he had done his job. Needing 11 to win off the last over, Captain Dhoni hit a six and a four to take his team to a comfortable 8 wicket win.

Earlier Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to field first. Delhi Daredevils got off to a decent start with openers adding 36 runs in 4 overs before Quinton de Kock was run out. In the same over captain Kevin Pietersen was bowled by Mohit Sharma but then Dinesh Karthik and Quinton de Kock steadied Delhi innings and took the score past 100. Dinesh Karthik completed his 50 and was the next to fall after scoring 51 off 36 balls. A cameo of 28 by JP Duminy and 29 by Kedar Jadhav helped Delhi post a decent total of 178/5 in 20 overs.

Match 21 – Chennai Super Kings Beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 34 Runs in Rain Curtailed Match

Reduced to 17 overs per side due to rain
Result – Chennai Super Kings won by 34 runs

Chennai Super Kings continued their good run and won the rain curtailed match against Kolkata Knight Riders by 34 runs thanks to the superb all round performance by Ravindra Jadeja.

Chasing 149 to win, Kolkata Knight Riders never looked in the chase as they lost captain Gambhir in the third over when the team score was just 17. Soon Kallis also got out leaving KKR at 36/2 in 4.4 overs. A twin strike in the 6th over totally shattered KKR innings and they were struggling at 38/4 in 5.2 overs. Robin Uthappa and Yusuf Pathan were the only hopes and the duo scored 47 and 41 respectively but after their wickets, it was all over for KKR and they eventually lost the match by 34 runs.

Earlier Chennai won the toss and elected to bat first. Though they lost Dwayne Smith early but Brendon McCullum and Suresh Raina then played with ease and took the score to 90 in 10.4 overs befoer Raina got out. This brought Dhoni to the crease and his cameo of 22 along with superb 56 off 40 by Brendon McCullum helped CSK post a total of 148/3 in 17 overs.
