The prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL) may soon be seen in the United States after IPL chairman Lalit Modi and the CEO of USA Cricket, Donald Lockerbie met and discussed about the future of cricket in the United States. Both discussed about how IPL can be introduced in US and even how top top American cricketers could feature in next edition of the IPL.

Modi, in an interview on the IPL’s official website, said: “The IPL has established itself as a truly global sporting league with its fans spanning the globe.

“The North American continent has emerged as the second largest market in terms of revenue and viewership for Indian cricket. Our meeting with the team from USA Cricket was very encouraging and we are confident of taking the IPL to the USA in the near future.

“I have no doubt that….cricket will soon become a popular sport in the USA.”

Lockerbie commented: “The IPL is a powerful new product in the sports industry and we will work hard to see USA Cricket and the IPL succeed together and energize the growth of cricket in our country.”

Upcoming cricketer Ravindra Jadeja has landed in a tight spot after he tried to negotiate with another franchise of Indian Premier League. In IPL 2010, Rajasthan Royals have left Ravindra Jadeja out of squad on the charges of anti-team activities. In what could have been a new controversy for Lalit Modi and Indian premier league 2010, Andhra Pradesh Sports Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has urged the reigning champions to boycott IPL 2010.

The minister was angry because of the shifting of the inaugural match out of Hyderabad. It should be noticed that few days ago, Lalit Modi has shifted the inaugural match to Mumbai due to the continous lawlessness in AP after the Telengana issue. The minister said “As a Sports Minister hailing from Telangana, I assure the organisers about full cooperation from the cricket-loving State.” On the other hand, The Deccan Chargers had not clear the stand but if Lalit Modi is to be believed, he said no such information has been circulated to him till date.
