New Zealand cricketer Jesse Ryder was admitted to a hospital in a critical condition after some unidentified people attacked him as he left a bar in Christchurch. The Delhi Daredevil player was in an induced coma with a fractured skull and serious internal injuries.
Exact reason for the assault are yet to be determined but initial reports suggest it all started with a slight altercation when he stepped outside the bar.
Delhi Daredevils had signed him for US$ 260,000 and Ryder was all set to fly to India this week.
In a bizarre turn of events, Politics have scored over cricket as IPL governing body has succumbed to the pressure of Tamil Nadu government and have decided that in IPL 2013 matches, no Sri Lankan player or official will participate in the matches to be played in Chennai. The main reason for this decision was security of the players and officials as stated by IPL governing body.
“The security of all involved in the IPL, whether players, spectators or those working in the stadiums, is of paramount importance to the BCCI,” the statement said. “The governing council decided that Sri Lankan players will not participate in the IPL 2013 league matches in Chennai and will advise the nine franchises accordingly.”

Chennai Super Kings will be the team which will feel the heat the most as they have to play 8 home matches in Chennai. After this decision, voices have been raised to change the venue but its still unclear if IPL governing body is thinking about it.
In a severe jolt to Pune Warriors, Australian captain Michael Clarke has been ruled out of IPL 2013 after failing to recover from his back injury. Clarke who was purchased by PWI for $400,000 was expected to lead the team in this season.
Michael Clarke who missed the fourth test against India after suffering from a back injury and a hamstring injury was forced to return home during the Delhi Test.
Cricket Australia confirmed that it will take atleast 7-10 weeks before Clarke will be able to play again.
The sixth edition of the prestigious Indian Premier League will have a dazzling opening ceremony as promised by the IPL organizers as Bollywood Superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif will perform at the ceremony at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on April 3.
“The Opening Ceremony of the Pepsi IPL 2013 will be as outstanding as the cricket that we will witness over the subsequent seven weeks. We are in for a spectacular commencement to what promises to be a memorable tournament,” IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla said.
The American rapper Pitbull who is famous for “Armando”, “M.I.M.A.I.”and “Planet Pit” will also perform in this year’s IPL opening ceremony.
In a late entry, Deepika Padukone also confirmed her performance in the opening ceremony.
Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan has announced that no Bangladeshi player will be playing IPL during the Bangladesh’s Zimbabwe tour (April 13, 2013 – May 12, 2013). This decision will impact Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal as only two of the Bangladeshi players will be featuring in the 2013 edition of IPL.
“There is no chance for players to take part in these tournaments when an international series is going on,” Hassan said. “As far as I know, cricket boards don’t allow such things, and we will not provide that opportunity. We haven’t been requested to provide any NOCs yet. I was asked if they can go to the IPL instead of the Zimbabwe tour, but I told them that they wouldn’t be able to. I know for sure that even in my capacity, I cannot let them go.”
