Today in the 28th match of DLF IPL 2012, Shaun Marsh lead Kings XI Punjab to a superb 6 wicket victory over the mighty Mumbai Indians.
Mumbai who won the toss and elected to bat first. Sachin Tendulkar was back in the team after recovering from an injury and he along with J Franklin added 51 in 8.1 overs before getting out. J Franklin played superbly on one end though wickets kept falling on the other end. Rohit Sharma got out after scoring just 2 runs but D Karthik then along with Franklin steadied Mumbai innings and the duo added 75 runs in just 6 overs. D Karthik was run out by Marsh and this was the turning point in the Mumbai Indians innings. Pollard, Franklin and Harbhajan Singh got out in quick succession and thus Mumbai could manage to post a total of 163/6 in 20 overs.
Chasing 164 to win, Punjab openers N Saini and Mandeep Singh scored 48 runs in 6.2 overs before Saini got out. Soon Mandeep Singh also got out out leaving KXIP struggling at 61/2 in 9 overs. Needing another 103 from 11 overs, KXIP again looked upon Shaun Marsh and David Hussey and the duo didn’t let the team down. They added 58 runs before Hussey got out after scoring 21 off 19 balls. A Mahmood was the next to come in and he scored 10 off 7 balls. The star for KXIP was Shaun Marsh who scored a brilliant 68 off 40 balls and remained unbeaten.
