Match 39 – Delhi Daredevils Won By 7 Wickets Against Kolkata Knight Riders

Result – Delhi Daredevils won by 7 wickets

Kolkata Knight Riders were invited to bat first by Delhi and this decision of Delhi paid off really well as Kolkata Knight Riders lost wickets at regular interval The first wicket fell in form of McCullum when the team score was just 7. Kolkata Knight Riders never recovered and lost wickets at regular interval. Only Saurav Ganguly showed some resistance from the top order and scored 44 runs. Later Ajit Agarkar (39 runs) helped Kolkata Knight Riders post a total of 123/8 in 20 overs

Delhi Daredevils Innings
Delhi Daredevils got off to a very good start. Even the target was moderate keeping in mind the earlier matches of IPL season 2. Delhi Daredevils openers scored freely and took the team score past 50 in 7th over. Though they lost 3 quick wickets but till then the damage was done and the game looked in control of Delhi Daredevils. AB de Villers made sure no more wickets are lost and he along with Karthik took Delhi Daredevils to one more thumping victory.

Match 31 – Delhi Won By 9 Wickets Against Kolkata Knight Riders

Date – May 5, 2009
Result – Delhi won by 9 wickets

Kolkata Knight Riders Innings
Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bat first. Kolkata Knight Riders prestige was at stake today and it looked they were determined to save it at any cost. The openers batted beautifully and today was the rare chance in IPL that they gave a solid start to them. McCullum (35 runs 29 balls 4*1, 6*3) was the first to go but by then the team score had past 50 run mark. M van Wyk played excellently and scored 74 runs in just 48 balls (4*11). B Hodge scored just 10 runs and M Henriques scored unbeaten 30 runs in 24 balls (4*2, 6*1). In the alloted 20 overs Kolkata Knight Riders managed 154/3 and it looks if they could get some early wickets they are very much in the game.

Delhi Daredevils Innings
Chasing the target of 155, Delhi Daredevils got to a good start. Both openers, Warner and Gambhir played really well and took the score to 60. Warner(36 runs 23 balls 4*5,6*1) was the first to get out when the team score was 60. After that Dilshan came to bat and Gambhir and Dilshan took the charge and scored runs with ease. Knight Riders chances to win were getting slimmer and slimmer with each shot played by both the batsmen. They took the score past 100 and after 18 overs they were 144/1. In the end it was yet another defeat for Knight Riders as Delhi won by 9 wickets thanks to superb batting by Gambhir (71runs 57 balls 4*7 6*0) and Dilshan (42 runs 34balls 4*5, 6*1).

Match 27 – Kings XI Punjab Win On Last Ball

Date – May 3, 2009
Result – Punjab won by 6 wickets

Kolkata Knight Riders Innings
Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and decided to bat first. They got to a moderate start but Hodge played a superb innings to help Kolkata Knight Riders pose a total of 153/3 in 20 overs. Ganguly, Gayle, Wyk and McCullum also scored decent scores. Today was one of the rare days in IPL-2 that Kolkata Knight Riders looked confident and scored runs freely. Now its up to bowlers to defend this total.

Kings XI Punjab Innings
Chasing the target of 154, Sangakkara was the first wicket to fell in the very first over. This was not the start Preity Zinta’s team would have wanted. But after loosing the initial wicket, the batsmen played with caution and scored runs with ease. Kings XI Punjab scored ones and two’s and came near the target slowly and steadily. Jayawardene ended his IPL’s poor form and scored half century and remained unbeaten till end. The game got very thrilling as till the last over it was open for both teams. The nail bitting match finished with Kings XI scoring the winning runs on the last ball of the match. King Khan’s dream team Knight Riders lost yet another match and are now at the bottom of the league table.

Match 23 – Mumbai Indians Defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 9 Runs

Date – May 1, 2009
Result – Mumbai Indians won by 9 runs

Mumbai Indians Innings
Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first. Jayasurya and Sachin started the innings and all the fans expected fireworks all over. But Dinda striked got rid of Jayasurya and Mumbai Indians lost the crucial wicket in the 4th over leaving them 19/1. Harbhajan Singh was sent to do some hitting but he failed and soon Sachin Tendulkar also got out after scoring 34 runs. Mumbai Indians kept loosing wickets at regular interval and this jolted the run rate. But then again Duminy was the player for Mumbai Indians who scored 52 runs in 37 balls and remained unbeaten till end. A small but useful contributions from lower middle order helped Mumbai Indians post 148/6 in alloted 20 overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders Innings
Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a disastrous start as Zaheer Khan got rid of Ganguly and Gayle when the team score was just 8. But then B Hodge and M van Wyk got together and played some good shots. While they were batting, it looked that Kolkata Knight Riders might have a chance but just at that moment, Napier got rid of M van Wyk. The run rate was rising and its pressure was too high for Kolkata Knight Riders to manage and thus they eventually lost the match by 9 runs.

Match 19 – Kolkata Knight Riders vs Bangalore Royal Challengers

Date – Apr 29, 2009
Result – Bangalore Royal Challengers win by 5 wickets

Kolkata Knight Riders Innings
Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bat first.They could not have got more disastrous start as they lost McCullum for a golden duck. Hodge and Gayle then took the score to 45 when Hodge became the victim of Kumble. Even Gayle could not play as freely as he always does but still managed 40 runs in 37 balls. Ganguly failed once and scored just 1 run, leaving his fans disappointed. M van Wyk and Saha then played and duo helped Kolkata Knight Riders cross the 100 run mark. In the end it was a total well shot of what was expected and Kolkata Knight Riders managed 139/6 in 20 overs.

Bangalore Royal Challengers Innings
Bangalore Royal Challengers got off to a very good start and scored 50 runs without the loss of any wicket. Chasing a modest target of 140, they looked pretty comfortable right from the first over.Goswami was the first to get out when the team score was 69, soon Kallis also got out and Bangalore Royal Challengers were 77/2 in 12.4 overs. Kohli and Pieterson then got some starts but were sent back by Hodge in the same over. Bangalore Royal Challengers required 33 more runs with 6 wickets in hand in remaining 4 overs. Merve got out after scoring just 9 runs. The match became quite interesting as Bangalore Royal Challengers needed 10 runs in the last over. Boucher as many times before was the savior for Bangalore Royal Challengers and scored the required runs to win the match.
