Today in the 21st match of Pepsi IPL 2014, Chennai Super Kings will take on Kolkata Knight Riders at 8 pm Indian Standard Time. This is the first match to be played in India after the first 20 matches were shifted to UAE due to general elections.

Chennai who lost their first match against the undefeated KXIP have returned back with a roar as they have won their last 4 matches in a row and are placed at number two spot in points table. On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders who have managed to win just 2 out of 5 matches will be hoping that they don’t fall of in the end overs as they did in their previous match.

As per IPL stats, CSK has won 8 out of 12 matches played between these two teams and therefore Kolkata would go all guns blazing today to better this record.

Match 17 IPL 7 – Chennai Super Kings Beat Sunrisers Hyderabad By 5 Wickets

Toss – Sunrisers won the toss and elected to bat first
Result – Chennai Super Kings Won by 5 wickets.

Chennai Super Kings  won by 5 wickets today against Sunrisers Hyderabad in a well fought match to add to their points tally. Earlier Sunrisers won the toss and elected to bat first. S Dhawan got out after scoring just 7 and in the same over, D Warner got out leaving Sunrisers struggling at 15/2 in 2.4 overs. Rahul and Finch then steadied the innings and took the score past 50. Just when the duo started to look dangerous, Smith got the wicket of Rahul. Finch continued to score run a ball and along with cameo from Sharma and Sammy, helped Sunrisers post a total of 145/5 in 20 overs.

Chasing 146 to win, CSK got off to a flying start with openers D Smith and B McCullum adding 85 runs for the first wicket stand. McCullum was the first to fall after scoring 33 ball 40 but he had done his job as a perfect platform was laid for the upcoming batsmen. Smith (66 off 46 balls 4×4, 5×6) on the other continued his scintillating batting and along with Raina took the team score past 100. Just when it looked that CSK will cruise to an easy win, Raina got out which brought Sunrisers back into the match. One after the another, wickets started to fell which increased the pressure on both the teams. CSK needed 6 off the last over with Dhoni and Manhas playing at the center. Captain Cool and Minhas played sensibly and took their team to a 5 wicket win.

Today in the 13th match of Pepsi IPL 2014, Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a poor start as they lost Michael Hussey for just 1 run when the team score was just 11. Aditya Tare got some start but could not captialize it as he got out for 23 off 19 balls. Corey Anderson and captain Rohit Sharma then steadied Mumbai Indian innings and took the score to 109 in 15.2 overs before Corey Anderson got run out after scoring 39 off 31 balls. Rohit Sharma completed his 50 with 3 fours and 2 sixes and helped Mumbai post a total of 141/7 in 20 overs.

Chasing 142 to win, Chennai Super Kings got off to a superb start as the openers Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum added 57 runs in 6.2 overs for the first wicket stand. Dwayne Smith got out after scoring 29 followed by the wicket of Suresh Raina for just 1. Chennai were placed at 61/2 in 7.4 overs and had plenty of batting to come. But Faf du Plessis and McCullum then played superbly and took the team score to 114 before Faf got out bringing Dhoni on to the crease. Needing 22 to win off last 3 overs, Dhoni hit Malinga for a six followed by a four from McCullum. Chennai needed 9 to win off last 2 overs and they achieved the target with 6 balls spare and won the match by 7 wickets.
