In a stunning display of power batting, Corey Anderson scored 95 off 44 balls to not only make sure Mumbai wins but wins with style and qualifies for the playoffs. With this, Rajasthan Royals are now out of this season.
Chasing 190 to win, Mumbai lost Lendl Simmons in the second over but they never allowed the fall of wickets to slow their run rate. Mumbai knew it was do or die for them as they need to win the match and that too within 15 overs to beat Royals on net run rate and qualify for playoffs. Every Mumbai batsmen knew the importance of balls as they hit fours and sixes and took their chances. The star in the chase was Corey Anderson who scored unbeaten 95 off 44 balls which included 9 fours and 6 sixes. He was well supported by 10 ball 30 by Ambati Rayudu. Mumbai who lost 5 matches in a row in the UAE leg were written off by many but the defending champions came back and that too strongly to qualify for playoffs.
Earlier Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to field. Rajasthan Royals started cautiously with Shane Watson departing for just 8 but Sanju Samson was at his devastating best as he hammered Mumbai bowlers and scored 74 off 47 balls. He was ably supported by Karun Nair who scored 27 ball 50. Brad Hodge ( 29 off 16 balls) and James Faulkner (23 off 12 balls) helped Rajasthan Royals post a total of 189/4 in 20 overs.
