A superb innings of 89 in 45 balls (8×4,6×6) by Glenn Maxwell along with the firecrackers in the final overs by David Miller (51 off 19 balls, 0x4, 6×6) helped Kings XI Punjab achieve yet another high score and register a comfortable win chasing 192. Kings XI Punjab got off to a poor start with Virender Sehwag getting out in the second over soon followed by Wriddhiman Saha. Kings XI Punjab were struggling at 10/2 in 2.4 overs and again needed the million dollar baby Glenn Maxwell to deliver. He proved why he is the most expensive player as he scored a brilliant 45 balls 89 to bring Kings XI Punjab on track of a successful chase. Once Maxwell got out, the focus shifted on Miller and he along with Cheteshwar Pujara who played a real good anchor took the Royal bowlers and blunted all attacks. David Miller hit 6 sixes in his 19 ball 51 and made sure that the target of 193 was achieved 8 balls to spare.
Earlier Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to field first. The decision was widely criticized by cricket experts as the pitch was a perfect batting track. The decision seemed to backfire as Rajasthan Royals got off to a flying start with the team crossing 50 in the sixth over. Despite both the openers being back in pavilion, Royals launched an all out attack with Shane Watson(50 off 29 balls, 5×4, 3×6) and Sanju Samson(52 off 34 balls, 3×4, 4×6) hitting boundaries and sixes at will. The duo added 74 in 7 overs and laid a solid platform for a huge total. A final onslaught by Steven Smith helped Rajasthan Royals post a total of 191/5 in 20 overs.
