Venue: Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur
Date: April 7, 2010
Time: 4:00 pm
Toss: Kings XI Punjab elected to bat
Result: Rajasthan Royals won by 9 wickets
Kings XI Punjab won the toss and decided to bat first today at Jaipur against Rajasthan Royals. They got a fast start but lost Bisla when the score was 29. Sangakkara also could not do much and was out for just 9. Kings XI Punjab were 52/2 in 6.1 overs. Jayawardene and Yuvraj then took the charge and took the score past 100. Yuvraj Singh was severly harsh on Shane Warne and never allowed him to get his rhythm. Jayawardene and Yuvraj were cruising on well and it looked Kings XI Punjab will set a huge total. But then came a twin blow to Kings XI Punjab as Aditya Dole in the 12th over struck twice to get rid of Jayawardene and Yuvraj. This became the turning point of match as Kings XI Punjab who were well placed at 109/4 in 12 overs just could not get runs. Though they had wickets in hands but still the batsmen were not able to get boundaries. In the last 5 overs they could manage only 27 runs and that too without even a single boundary. At one stage it looked they would cross the 180 mark but eventually some excellent bowling by Rajasthan Royals restricted them to 153/6 in 20 overs.
Chasing the total of 154 to win, Rajasthan Royals got off to a flying start with M Lumb and Naman Ojha giving them a 100 run first wicket partnership. M Lumb was typically severe on the Kings XI bowlers as he scored 83 runs off just 43 balls with 16 fours and 2 sixes. Rajasthan Royals were well placed at 110/1 at the end of 10 overs and victory was on the doorsteps. Ojha and Yusuf Pathan then made sure that Royals achieve the victory in style. Rajasthan Royals thrashed Kings XI Punjab by 9 wickets and were able to win the match in 15 overs.
