In a sensational match which changed with every ball being bowled, Rajasthan Royals managed to sneak past to victory by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders on the basis of boundary count.
KKR played Super over with Pandey and Yadav where as Royals decided to go with Faulkner. On the very first ball, Yadav got run out. Pandey hit a six on the fourth ball but eventually KKR could post 11/2 in The Super Over.
Rajasthan Royals needed 12 to win and they chose Shane Watson and Steve Smith to play. KKR gave the ball to S Naraine. Royals could manage just 4 runs in first three balls and then Watson hit a four. Royals needed 3 to win on last ball. But as per other rule of IPL, if a match is tied in superover, then team hitting more boundaries will win. Steve Smith and Watson then showed presence of mind and scored 2 runs on last ball. Eventually they won the match on the basis of boundary count.
Needing 153 to win, Gambhir and Bisla added 21 runs in 3.4 overs before Bisla got out. Gambhir played sensibly today and scored 45 off 44 balls before getting out. Kallis also got a start and scored 13 before Tambe got his wicket. M Pandey then raised some hopes with a six and four but got out in that very over. S Yadav then played a superb cameo of 31 off 19 balls to bring KKR back in the hunt. KKR needed 16 off 12 balls but three wickets fell in the 19th over by Faulkner leaving KKR struggling at 141/7 in 18.5 overs. Shakib Al Hasan then came to the team rescue as he scored a brilliant 24 off 14 balls. KKR needed 3 to win off the last ball but Shakib managed to score a double and thus the match was tied.
Earlier Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers A Rahane and KK Nair added 13 runs before Nair got out after scoring just 1. Rahane and Samson then steadied the Royals innings and took the team score past 100. Samson was the next to fall after scoring 20 off 19 balls. Rahane stood firm on one end and along with captain Shane Watson then took the team score past 100. Rahane scored a brilliant 59 balls 72 where as Shane Watson scored 33 in 24 balls before being run out. Finally Royals were able to post 152/5 in 20 overs.
