Today in the 25th match of Pepsi IPL 2013, Kings XI won the toss and elected to bat first. Mandeep Singh and Adam Gilchrist once again failed to give them good start as Mandeep Singh got out after scoring just 10 runs. In the 9th over, double strike by K Sharma pegged Kings XI Punjab back as the were reduced to 48/3 in 9 overs. Wickets kept falling at regular interval and Sunrisers bowlers never allowed KXIP batsmen to flourish. Three wickets in the 18th over restricted KXIP to a paltry total of 123/9 in 20 overs.
Chasing 124 to win and move on top of points table, Sunrisers lost the opener Quinton de Kock for a duck. But Akshath Reddy and Hanuma Vihari then steadied the innings and took the score to 48 before Reddy got out. Hanuma Vihari continued his superb form and scored 46 off 39 balls before getting out. Sunrisers were comfortably placed at 70/3 in 11.4 overs but some good bowling by Punjab bowlers brought them back. Cameron White and Biplab Samantray got out in quick succession leaving Sunrisers at 97/5 in 16.1 overs. Needing 18 to win from 2 overs, Sunriser’s Thisara Perera hit 3 sixes in the 19th over by A Mehmood to take his team to a comfortable 5 wicket win.
