In the third match of Pepsi IPL 2013, Pune Warriors won the toss and decided to field first. Parthiv Patel and Akshath Reddy gave Sunrisers Hyderabad a decent start and scored 34 in 5.1 overs. All the top order batmen scored runs in double digits but none could make it large and thus with combined team effort, Sunrisers Hyderabad were able to post total of 126/6 in 20 overs
Chasing 127 to win, Pune Warriors started cautiously and added 36 runs for the first wicket stand. As soon as Robin Uthappa’s wicket felt, Pune lost the momentum and lost quick wickets in form of Marlon Samuels, Yuvraj Singh and Manish Pandey. From 36/1 in 6.5 overs they were reduced to50/4 in 11.2 overs. Ross Taylor and Abhishek Nayar then raised some hope but just when the duo started to look dangerous, Amit Mishra strikde and got the wicket of Nayar leaving Pune at 83/5 in 15.5 overs. Needing 44 to win from 24 balls, Ross Taylor also got out in the next over which brought captain Angelo Mathews on to the crease. The increasing required run rate pressure was too much for Pune and finally they were all out for 104 and thus lost the match by 22 runs.
