The poor run of Mumbai Indians continued as they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 15 runs, their straight fifth loss in as many matches.
Mumbai needed 173 to register their first win in IPL but they got off to a disastrous start as they lost captain Rohit Sharma for just 1 in the second over. Soon star batsmen Corey Anderson also got out leaving Mumbai struggling at 8/2 in 2.4 overs. Mumbai needed a partnership to come back to the match and this came when Ambati Rayudu and Kieron Pollard added 77 runs before Rayudu got out after scoring 27 ball 35. But Kieron Pollard then unleashed his hitting skills and hit fours and sixes at will. He hit Amit Mishra for three consecutive sixes and eased the increasing run rate pressure on Mumbai Indians. Mumbai needed 31 to win from last 3 overs but an excellent over by Steyn in which he gave just 4 runs changed the equation. Mumbai needed 27 to win in last 2 overs and 7 runs came of the second last over by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Finally Mumbai needed 20 to win from last over and their only hope was Pollard but he got bowled on the very first over after scoring a brilliant 48 ball 78 which included 3 fours and 6 sixes. With his wicket, it was all over for Mumbai and they eventually lost the match by 15 runs.
Earlier Mumbai won the toss and elected to field. The decision was justified initially by Mumbai bowlers as they got rid of Shikar Dhawan in the third over when the team score was just 21. Soon dangerous looking Finch also departed leaving Sunrisers at 38/2 in 5 overs. But Lokesh Rahul and David Warner then played superb cricket to revive their team. The duo added 109 runs in 13.2 overs. Warner played superbly for his 51 ball 65 and along with 40 ball 46 from Lokesh helped Sunrisers post a decent total of 172/5 in 20 overs.
