In a stunning display of batting and keeping cool under pressure, CSK managed to sneak past Mumbai Indians by 4 wickets.
Chasing 158 to win, CSK lost McCullum in the 5th over but Dwayne Smith and Suresh Raina steadied the innings and took the score past 50. Just when the dup looked set, Pollard got the priced wicket of Raina. Smith continued his good form on the other end and was well supported by Faf du Plessis. The duo added 63 runs in 7.4 overs and kept CSK in the hunt. Lasith Malinga got the wickets of Faf du Plessis and R Jadeja to raise some hopes for Mumbai but captain cool Dhoni played a cameo of 22 in 12 balls to take his team to a 4 wicket win.
Earlier Chennai won the toss and invited Mumbai to bat first. Chidhambaram Gautam was the first to fall as got out after scoring just 9 but Lendl Simmons and Ambati Rayudu then played brilliantly to lay a platform for a big score. Lendl Simmons got out after scoring 38 off 38 balls when the team score was 77. Rohit Sharma and Rayadu then took the team score past the 100 run mark. CSK needed one break through to come back into the match and they got that in the form of Rohit Sharma who got out to Ashwin. In the same over, Ashwin removed Pollard and Mumbai threw away the platform they had for a huge total. Eventually they were able to post 157/6 thanks to a cameo of 18 in 6 balls by Corey Anderson.
