Chasing 130 to win, MI lost the last match’s hero Levi for a duck on the second ball of the innings. It triggered the fall of wickets as Mumbai lost A Rayudu and Rohit Sharma also in quick succession and were reeling at 5/3 in 2 overs. J Franklin and D Karthik then played cautiously and took the score to 54 before Karthik got out. Soon after his wicket, S Yadav also got out for a duck which brought Pollard on the crease. MI needed 82 runs in last 10 overs but it proved too much for them and they lost the match by 29 runs, thanks to the superb bowling by Pune Warriors.
In the third match of DLF IPL 2012, Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to field first. Ganguly’s team Pune Warriors got a big jolt in the very first over as M Pandey got out for a duck. Soon Ganguly also got out after scoring just 3 runs and PW were 15/2 in 3.4 overs. W Parnell was the next to get out after scoring just 11 runs but on the other end, R Uthappa played superbly and kept holding on to his end. He got into small yet useful partnerships with C Ferguson and S Smith before getting out after scoring 36 runs off 33 balls. S Smith (39 runs off 32 balls) then carried on and helped his team past 100 run mark. But wickets kept falling at regular intervals and thus Pune could manage just 129/9 runs in 20 overs.
