Today in the 2nd match of IPL Season 7, new-look Delhi Daredevils will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore at Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium at 8 pm Indian Time.

In a setback to Delhi,captain Kevin Pietersen will not be playing today because of injury. Dinesh Karthik will replace Kevin as captain for today’s match and would like to open the team tally on a high and forget about the disastrous 2013 season in which they were placed last in points table.

On the other hand, RCB will be lead by Indian Superstar Virat Kohli who is in tremendous form. Apart from Kohli, the team is boosted by the presence of explosive Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers and Yuvraj Singh.

Today in the first match of the much awaited IPL 2014, defending champions Mumbai Indians took on 2012 winners Kolkata Knight Riders at Abu Dhabi. Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bat first. Captain Gautam Gambhir got out for a duck in the second over leaving KKR at 4/1 in 1.4 overs. But Manish Pandey and Jacques Kallis then steadied the innings with a brilliant 131 run partnership. The duo completed their half centuries and provided a solid platform to KKR to put down a good total. Manish Pandey got out in the 17th over after scoring 64 off 53 balls but the star for KKR was Kallis who hammered Mumbai Indian bowlers and scored 72 off 46 balls which included 5 fours and 3 sixes. Eventually KKR were able to post a decent total of 163/5 in 20 overs.

Chasing 164 to win and start the 2014 campaign on a winning note, Mumbai Indians openers Michael Hussey and Aditya Tare added 24 runs for the first wicket partnership before Hussey got out after scoring just 3. Soon Tare also fell and Mumbai were placed at 40/2 in 7.5 overs. Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu then took the charge and helped Mumbai regain the pace as the duo added 61 runs in 7.1 overs. Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu both got out within the span of 5 balls and Mumbai were reduced to 106/4 in 16.1 overs. Needing another 58 to win from 3.5 overs was a herculean task and KKR bowler Sunil Narine proved to be too much for Mumbai as they eventually could score 122/7 in their allotted 20 overs and thus lost the match by 41 runs.

In the 2014th edition of IPL, Kevin Pietersen was named as captain of Delhi Daredevils. Former England star was chosen as DD captain due to his superb T20 record. Though he missed the last edition due to injury but in 2012, he scored 305 runs at an outstanding average of 61.

“I feel incredibly honoured to have been asked to captain the Delhi Daredevils in this year’s IPL. I am very much looking forward to working alongside Gary Kirsten. We have a fantastic squad with a good blend of youth and experience and a brilliant coaching set up. We hope to bring our incredible fans a lot of happiness this season,” Pietersen said on his appointment as captain.

Delhi Daredevils have also named Dinesh Karthik as vice captain and Gary Kirsten as their coach for IPL 2014.

The former Indian batsman and former Kings XI Punjab assistant coach WV Raman, has been appointed as batting coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2014.

Trevor Bayliss the coach will be assisted by WV Raman as batting coach and Vijay Dahiya as assistant coach in the 2014 edition of Pepsi Indian Premier League.
