Today in the 11th match of Pepsi IPL 2014, Kolkata Knight Riders were asked to bat first by RCB. The decision of RCB showed instant result as KKR captain Gautam Gambhir was out for a duck when the team score was just 1. Manish Pandey was the next to fall leaving KKR struggling at 10/2 in 1.2 overs. J Kallis and Chris Lynn then got into a good partnership and took the team score to 90 in 11.3 overs but then a double strike by Aaron left KKR struggling at 90/4 in 11.5 overs. Soon Kallis also got out and the team started to look a bit shaky. Finally KKR managed to post a total of 150/7 in their respective 20 overs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore needed 151 to win their third consecutive match and their openers gave them a perfect start. Parthiv Patel and Yogesh Takawale added 67 runs for the first wicket stand. Both the openers got out when the team score was 67 which brought Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli on to the crease. The duo played with ease and took the score past 100. Virat Kohli scored 31 before being bowled by a beauty from S Narine. Soon Yuvraj too got out after 31 and the match was very interestingly poised as RCB needed 9 off the last over. A Morkel and AB de Villers then needed to take their team towards victory but a stunning catch by Lynn sent AB de Villers back and RCB still needed 6 to win off 2 balls. Morkel too 2 off the penultimate ball and thus RCB needed 4 to win off the last ball. A Morkel then failed to score the boundary and thus Kolkata Knight Riders won the match by 2 Runs

JP Duminy and skipper Dinesh Karthik made sure that their team register the first win in this season against Kolkata Knight Riders. Chasing 167 to win, they lost opener for a duck but Mayank Agrawal excited the crowd with his short innings of 26. It was the heroics of Dinesh Karthik and Jean-Paul Duminy which eventually helped them win the match by 4 wickets.

Earlier, KKR won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Jacques Kallis and Gautam Gambhir both got out for a duck leaving KKR struggling at 11/2 in 1.4 overs. The star for KKR were Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey as they steadied the innings and helped Delhi post a total of 166/5 in 20 overs.

Result – Kolkata Knight Riders won by 41 runs

Today in the first match of the much awaited IPL 2014, defending champions Mumbai Indians took on 2012 winners Kolkata Knight Riders at Abu Dhabi. Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bat first. Captain Gautam Gambhir got out for a duck in the second over leaving KKR at 4/1 in 1.4 overs. But Manish Pandey and Jacques Kallis then steadied the innings with a brilliant 131 run partnership. The duo completed their half centuries and provided a solid platform to KKR to put down a good total. Manish Pandey got out in the 17th over after scoring 64 off 53 balls but the star for KKR was Kallis who hammered Mumbai Indian bowlers and scored 72 off 46 balls which included 5 fours and 3 sixes. Eventually KKR were able to post a decent total of 163/5 in 20 overs.

Chasing 164 to win and start the 2014 campaign on a winning note, Mumbai Indians openers Michael Hussey and Aditya Tare added 24 runs for the first wicket partnership before Hussey got out after scoring just 3. Soon Tare also fell and Mumbai were placed at 40/2 in 7.5 overs. Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu then took the charge and helped Mumbai regain the pace as the duo added 61 runs in 7.1 overs. Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu both got out within the span of 5 balls and Mumbai were reduced to 106/4 in 16.1 overs. Needing another 58 to win from 3.5 overs was a herculean task and KKR bowler Sunil Narine proved to be too much for Mumbai as they eventually could score 122/7 in their allotted 20 overs and thus lost the match by 41 runs.
