Sourav Ganguly has been fined US $40,000 and the rest members of Kolkata Knight Riders US $10,000 each, due to slow over rate in the match against the Delhi Daredevils in Kolkata on Wednesday. They were two overs behind the required over rate.

“The Indian Premier League today advised that Kolkata Knight Riders have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during last night’s DLF IPL match against Delhi Daredevils in Kolkata,” read a statement from the IPL.

“Since it was Kolkata’s second offense of the season, under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offenses, captain Sourav Ganguly was fined USD 40,000 and each player in the team USD 10,000,” the statement added.

Now if this offense is repeated the third time, Ganguly can face a ban for 1 match.

In the IPL match played on Sunday, Harbhajan Singh was found guilty of sledging Deccan Chargers batsman T Suman and was fined $15,000 for the level 1 offense.

Match referee Sundar Raman found Singh’s verbal abuse as level 1 offense and thus punished Harbhajan.

Harbhajan Singh had won the man of the match award in the same match.

In yet another accomplishment of The Indian Premier League, an American magazine FastCompany has ranked IPL as the 22nd most innovative company for the year 2010.

FastCompany said that “IPL has transformed cricket, establishing a new model that shows how a nearly 500 year old game can be revamped, restructured, and tailored to today’s short attention spans and entertainment infrastructure and succeed wildly.”

Today, Indian Premier League governing body announced the increase in the bidding price and from next year, each franchisee would now be able spend USD seven million (Rs 35 crore) to bid for players. This is an increase of USD 2 million from the current bidding price.

“This would mean USD 70 million for the 10 teams every year and USD 210 million (about Rs 1,000 crore) in three years, this will be the single largest auction in sporting world,” said the IPL Commissioner and Chairman Lalit Modi.
