As the Indian Premier League T20 cricket tournament kicked off, many techies did not want to miss the chance, as they shut down their systems by early afternoon.

“Yeah it was tough to get permission and I had to wrap up work much early. And I wanted to watch it from the stadium as it was just for three-four hours. I don’t have to spend the entire day in the stadium. It is more fun than the one-day matches. No seriousness involved, and it was filled with entertainment,” says Sharath G, working in a leading IT company.

“It was a good stress buster. Instead of going for parties, it was good to be associated with our favourite game and movie stars filled with glamour and style,” he added.

Symonds representing Hyderabad’s Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League played his first match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday night at Eden Gardens.

“When I came out on the field there was a fair bit of noise but I didn’t hear anything nasty,” Symonds was quoted as saying in The Daily Telegraph . “I went down to the boundary after about five overs in the field and everything was ok.”

The Eden authorities have decided to shift Kolkata Knight Riders’ Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Mumbai Indians Indian Premier League on April 29 to a new pitch.

“The match next Tuesday will be played on a new pitch. The track that hosted the last match needs to be rested and we have to work on it,” BCCI’s pitch and grounds committee chairman Daljit Singh told newspersons after making a survey of the wicket.

Australian opener Matthew Hayden described the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the beginning of an ‘incredible journey’ and said initial matches of the Twenty20 championship had set a very high standard for the rest of the tournament.

Hayden, who is playing for Chennai Super Kings, said the high-scoring matches in the tournament have raised the bar for every team. Hayden said the non-availability of foreign recruits for the entire tournament would not affect the IPL.

‘That’s the beauty of the IPL. You get to see almost all the top players in the world at some point in the tournament. I think, the IPL is the start of an incredible journey,’ he said.
