Dwayne Smith and Dinesh Karthik then took the score to 43 before Dinesh Karthik got out after scoring 25 off 19 balls. Mumbai were 43/2 in 7.4 overs and were hoping for a big score from Rohit Sharma and he didn’t disappoint. Rohit Sharma played a fiery innings of 79 in just 39 balls which included 6 fours and 6 sixes. Kieron Pollard also chipped in with useful 20 and thus Mumbai were able to post a total of 174/3 in 20 overs on board.

Chasing 175 to win, KXIP opened with Mandeep Singh and Shaun Marsh but the duo could not give them the start they needed as Mandeep Singh got out in the 2nd over leaving KIP at 12/1 in 2 overs. Manan Vohra also fell cheaply and KXIP were reduced to 16/2 in 2.5 overs. They needed a solid partnership and Shaun Marsh and David Hussey looked promising but P Ojha accounted for both of them and left KXIP struggling at 76/4 in 8.4 overs. David Miller was the only hope for KXIP as wickets kept falling from other end. Harbhajan Singh took three wickets to reduce KXIP to 111/7 in 14 overs. Needing 64 to win from last 6 overs, David Miller completed his half century but got out after scoring 56 in 34 balls which included 1 four and 5 sixes. With his fall, KXIP’s chances looked dim but Praveen Kumar’s 15 ball 24 raised some hopes but on last ball they needed a six to win but could not score it. Finally they went down struggling and lost the match by 4 runs.
