Result – Punjab win by 3 runs
Kings XI Punjab Innings
Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to bat first but the decision was not in favor as the pitch was not conducive for stroke play. Kings XI Punjab lost quick wickets and never recovered from the jolts. Only one batsmen, Kumara Sangakkarra showed some resistance and scored unbeaten 45. The second highest scorer was Goel who scored 12 runs. All other batsmen failed to use the opportunity and score some runs. In the end, after 20 overs, Kings XI Punjab managed just 119/8.
Now it lies on the bowlers to defend this low but competitive total as the pitch seems to have something for the bowlers.
Mumbai Indians Innings
Chasing a total of 120, Mumbai Indians got to a disastrous start as both openers – Jayasurya and Tendulkar were sent back to pavilion when the team score was just 4. Mumbai Indians were reeling at 12/3 in 4.1 overs. Then Bravo and Duminy started to settle the innings and before they could even normalise Mumbai Indians, Bravo was out leaving Mumbai Indians 45/4 in the 10th over. Duminy was the only hope left for Mumbai Indians and he did not disappoint. He played a superb knock of 59 runs and took Mumbai Indians very close to victory. In last over Mumbai Indians required 12 to win and they lost Duminy. This was the turning point and they lost the match by just 3 runs. This was one of the closest match in IPL in which the pendulum shifted from one to another right across the game.
