Chasing 171 to win and keeping dim hopes alive to qualify, KKR opened with Gautam Gambhir and Manvinder Bisla. Bisla got out after scoring just 1 when the team score was 17. Soon Kallis was bowled by Parnell followed by the priced wicket of Captain Gambhir. Kolkata were reeling at 29/3 in 4.4 overs and needed some one to bring them back in the game. Yusuf Pathan and Ryan ten Doeschate then played superbly and had a 98 run partnership before Ryan ten Doeschate got out after scoring 30 ball 42. KKR were placed at 127/4 in 15.5 overs with hopes still alive as Yusuf Pathan was playing well on the other end. The biggest turnover came when in the 18th over, Yusuf Pathan got out as he was found obstructing the field by the umpires. A brilliant knock of 44 ball 72 ended and with this, the hopes for KKR also tanked. Eventually KKR fell short of the target by 7 runs and thus Pune registered a well fought victory and thus eliminated KKR from the league.
