In the clash between Mumbai and Delhi, Mumbai won the toss and elected to bat first. The star opening pair of Sachin and Ponting failed and gave Delhi the perfect start in bowling. Scorecard reading 1/2 in 1.3 overs and Delhi bowlers looked all charged up. But then came Dinesh Karthik and Rohit Sharma and this duo smashed ever bowler out of park. Dinesh Karthik scored 86 off 48 balls (14×4, 2×6) before getting out where as Rohit Sharma scored unbeaten 74 off 50 balls (4×4, 5×6) and helped Mumbai post a huge total of 209/5 in 20 overs.
Chasing 210 to open their points account, Delhi Daredevils got off to a disastrous start as they lost Unmukt Chand on the very first ball of the match. Captain Mahela Jayawardene also got out cheaply and Delhi were struggling at 13/2 in 2.4 overs. David Warner and Manprit Juneja had a huge responsibility on their shoulders and the duo took the score to 95 where David Warner got out after scoring 61 off 37 balls(5×4, 4×6). With his wicket, Delhi lost the tempo and the task of scoring 92 to win from 6 overs became next to impossible. Manprit Juneja though tried his best from one end but he was run out after scoring 49 and with his wicket, all hopes of Delhi were lost. Delhi could manage to score 165/9 in 20 overs and thus lost their third match in a row.
