Chasing 165 to win, Pune opened with Robin Uthappa and man in form Aaron Finch. The duo played well and added 76 runs for the first wicket partnership. In the 11th over, they both fell to Pathan after scoring 37 each. But they had laid a solid platform for the coming batsmen. Yuvraj Singh and Luke Wrigh then steadily took the team score past 100.
