Chasing 227 to win, Chennai Super Kings lost Faf du Plessis on the second ball of the innings when the team score was just 1. The spectacular Raina innings came to an end in the form of a run out which brought the much needed respite for Punjab. With this wicket, Punjab bounced back into the game and tightened their grip on the match. Though Ravindra Jadeja got a start but Awana’s double blow in the1 13th over ended CSK hopes. MS Dhoni was the only hope for Chennai but the run rate was way over his control. Chennai Super Kings gave them a good reply and eventually managed to score 202/7 and thus lost the match by 24 runs. With this defeat, Chennai are now out of IPL 2014.
Earlier Chennai Super Kings won the toss and invited Kings XI Punjab to bat first. Pandey got the first breakthrough for Chennai as he got the wicket of Vohra (34 off 31 balls). Sehwag was at his devastating best today as he scored his half century in 21 balls. Though Maxwell failed yet again today but it was Sehwag who continued his scintillating batting from the other end. Watching him play was a pure delight for all Kings XI Punjab fans as he smashed every bowler out of the ground. Sehwag completed his century, his second in IPL but still there was no stopping. Eventually Sehwag got out for 122 but a cameo from David Miller ( 38 off 19balls) helped KXIP post a huge total of 226/6 in 20 overs.
