The half century of matches in this IPL – 3 was completed today with the 50th match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Daredevils. Both the teams were desperate to win today’s match so as to move ahead in points table. Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to bat first. But they got off to a poor start as they lost Hayden when the team score was just 9. MS Dhoni who has not fired in this tournament also got out for a duck and Chennai were struggling at 13/2 in 2.2 overs. All hopes were on Murli Vijay and Suresh Raina, but that too ended soon as Murli Vijay was out leaving CSK struggling at 23/3 in 3.4 overs. Raina and Hussey then took the team score past 50 in 7.3 overs. Raina was the next to get out and his wicket triggered the collapse of CSK batting order. Within a span of 3 runs they lost three wickets and were in dire straits at 55/6 in 10 overs. S Badrinath’s 30 was the highest score from CSK batsmen and he along with Bollinger took the team to a total of 112/9 in 20 overs.
Chennai’s fan were utterly disappointed with the batting performance and were praying that today the bowling saves them. The bowlers got a fantastic start and got rid of Warner in the very first over. Soon Delhi Daredevils lost 2 more wickets adding much excitement to the low scoring match. Delhi Daredevils were 6/3 in 1.4 overs and they needed a partnership which could help them win today’s match. At the starting of 11th over, Delhi Daredevils scoring rate was identical to that of CSK i.e. 56/4. Gambhir 57 runs off 56 balls) and Mithun Manhas 25 runs off 32 balls) then got on to a good partnership which steadied the drowning ship of Delhi Daredevils. Gambhir played a captain’s knock and helped Delhi win by 6 wickets and move above CSK in points table.
