Five balls later, Dwayne Smith also got out leaving Mumbai at 42/2 in 7.4 overs. With both openers back, CSK saw an opportunity to come back and they striked yet again and got the wicket of Pollard reducing Mumbai to 45/3 in 9.1 overs. Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik then took the team score past the 50 run mark. Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 39 off 30 balls and a cameo of 25 in 11 balls by Harbhajan Singh helped Mumbai post 139/5 in 20 overs.
Chasing 140 to win, Chennai openers Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay failed to give them a good start. Vijay got out after scoring just 2. The third over saw a complete batting collapse as Murali Vijay, Suresh Raina and ubramaniam Badrinath got out leaving CSK struggling at 9/3. CSK needed a partnership to continue their winning streak but superb bowling by Mumbai never allowed them to have it. Only three CSK batsmen, M Hussey, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja scored double digit runs with Hussey being the top scorer with 22. CSK were all out for 79 and thus lost the match by 60 runs.
