Dinesh Karthik and Dwayne Smith then had a 68 runs partnership and took the score to 97. Dwayne Smith completed his 50 in 36 balls and was then bowled by Mohammad. Captain Rohit Sharma was run out when he was on 8 but this did not deter Dinesh Karthik who continued with his good shots and scored 43 in 33 balls before getting run out. In last overs, Kieron Pollard played a cameo of 34 off 16 balls (2×4,3×6) and helped Mumbai post a good total of 194/7 in 20 overs

Chasing 195 to win, RCB needed a solid start, Chris Gayle and Tillakaratne Dilshan added 35 runs in 5.4 overs before Dilshan got out. But the big blow came in the very next over as Chris Gayle got out after scoring just 18. RCB were reduced to 37/2 in 6.5 overs. Captain Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers had a huge responsibility on their shoulders but they crumbled under the increasing run rate pressure and RCB were reduced to 43/4 in 7.4 overs. Saurab Tiwary and Arun Karthik then tried to rescue their team but the required rate was way too much. Some good shot were played by the lower order but those proved too little to late and finally they could manage just 136/7 in 20 overs and thus lost the match by 58 runs.
