It was a scintillating batting performance by Robin Uthappa and Shakib Al Hasan which made KKR win their 6th match in a row and thus cement their place for playoffs. But with a defeat today, RCB are now out of this season.
Chasing 196 to win and remain in the contention for playoffs, RCB lost Chris Gayle in the second over when the team score was just 7. But captain Virat Kohli and Yogesh Takawale kept them in the hunt and added 85 runs in 10.1 overs. But twin blow in the 13th over by Narine got KKR back into the game. Kohli departed after scoring 38 where as Yogesh Takawale was bowled for 45. Naraine accounted for Yuvraj Singh and also got the priced wicket of AB de Villiers. With 5 down for 133 in the 17th over, it was curtains down for RCB as they not only lost the match by 30 runs but were also sent packing from this season.
Earlier Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and elected to field first. Kolkata lost Gautam Gambhir in the very first over when the team score was just 5. In the 4th over, Manish Pandey got out after scoring 13. KKR were struggling 23/2 in 3.4 overs. But then Robin Uthappa and Yusuf Pathan steadied the innings and took the score past 50 run mark. Yusuf was run out by Kohli which brought Shakib Al Hasan to the center. Uthappa and Hassan hammered every RCB bowler and added 121 runs in 11.4 overs. Shakab Al Hasan got out after scoring 60 in 38 balls where as Uthappa remained unbeaten on 83 off 51 balls. KKR posted a huge total of 195/4 in 20 overs.
