Today in the second match of Pepsi IPL 2013, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Mumbai Indiansby 2 runs in thrilling match played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. Chasing 159 to win, Mumbai opened with Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar. It was a delight to watch two of the best batsmen in world cricket at center together and the duo did not disappointed the crowd as they put on 52 runs for the first wicket stand. Sachin Tendulkar was run out by Unadkat soon followed by Ricky Ponting’s wicket leaving Mumbai at 62/2 in 9.5 overs. Mumbai needed 51 off last 4 overs and the match was evenly poised but some superb hitting by Dinesh Karthik in the 17th over tilted the game in Mumbai’s favor as just 27 runs were needed of last 3 overs. Needing 10 to win in the final over, the match took a complete U turn as Mumbai Indians lost Kartik and Ambati Rayudu on successive balls leaving them at 149/5 and still needing 9 off 3 balls. Pollard could manage to score just 5 off the last two balls and thus RCB defeated MI by 2 runs in a thrilling IPL match.

Earlier Chris Gayle single handily helped RCB post a total of 156/5 in 20 overs. RCB who were asked to bat first by Mumbai lost Tillakaratne Dilshan for a duck. Captain Virat Kohli then fell after scoring just 24. After Kohli’s wicket, three quick wickets pegged RCB back as they were reduced to 80/5 in 12.4 overs. But Gayle storm unleashed and he smashed 92 runs off just 58 balls which included 11 fours and 5 sixes. It was his efforts which helped RCB post a decent total of 158/5 in 20 overs.
