In the bidding process for new teams today, Pune and Kochi are the new teams which will participate in the next editions of the Indian Premier League. This was announced by IPL commissioner Lalit Modi today in Chennai.
The Pune franchise was won by Sahara Adventure Sports Group for a bid of US $370 million, while the Kochi team was won by Rendezvous Sports World Limited for $333 million.
The other cities which were up for bidding were Ahmedabad, Baroda, Cuttack, Dharamsala, Indore, Gwalior, Nagpur, Kanpur, Rajkot and Vizag. Sahara had the highest bidding for Ahmedabad Pune and Nagpur but finally they chose Pune.
With the addition of two new teams, the number of matches will be increased from 60 to 94 from the fourth edition onwards.
