Chasing 158 to win, Sehwag lead DD got off to a disastrous start as they lost Sehwag’s wicket for a duck in the very first over. But A Finch and N Ojha played sensibly and took the attack to RCB bowlers and the duoadded 42 runs for the second wicket partnership. Ojha got out when team score was 55 and his wicket triggered a wicket fall as A Finch and G Maxwell also got out in quick succession leaving the score at 76/4 in 11.4 overs. DD needed 82 more to win from 50 balls and had 6 wickets in hand. The run rate was mounting on and this pressure was more than what DD batsmen could handle. Irfan Pathan came to the center an played a superb cameo of 24 off just 15 balls (2×4 1×6) but the required rate was above 13 runs per over and thus DD could manage just 137/7 in 20 overs and thus lost the match by 20 runs.

Earlier, Delhi won the toss and elected to field first. Royal Challengers Bangalore got off to a good start and scored 37 for the first wicket partnership in just 4 overs. C Pujara was the first to get out soon followed by A McDonald, V Kohli and S Tiwary. From 36/1 RCB slumped to 59/4. AB de Villiers was firm on one end and scored 64 runs off 42 balls which included 6 fours and 2 sixes. It was his gallant effort which helped RCB post a total of 157/8 in 20 overs.
