Today in the 10th match of DLF IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Daniel Vettori won the toss and elected to bowl first against Kolkata Knight Riders. Jacques Kallis along with captain Gambhir opened the batting for Kolkata Knight Riders and right from the first over, the duo took the charge and hammered RCB bowlers to all corners of the ground. The duo added 60 runs in the first power play (1-6 overs). Captain of RCB, Daniel Vettori got the much needed breakthrough when he got the wicket of J Kallis. But there was no stopping for Gambhir who then along with Manvinder Singh Bisla took the team score past 100 in the 11th over. At one stage it looked like the target of 200 is quite achievable. Gambhir completed his half-century from just 28 balls, the fastest fifty in this year’s IPL. Finally Muralitharan got the priced wicket of Bisla who scored 46 from 29 balls. At the end of 14 overs, KKR were comfortably placed at 126/2 and Yusuf Pathan was the next batsmen in. The crowd expected some fireworks from Pathan but was disappointed as he failed again and got out after scoring just 1 run. This lead to a flurry of wickets, from 126/2, KKR slumped to 154/8 in 19.3 overs with no middle order batsmen able to score run in double digit.A complete middle order collapse brought RCB back into the game and they were able top restrict KKR to 165/8 in 20 overs.

Chasing 166 to win, RCB needed a good start but KKR bowlers didn’t let allow them easy runs. Kallis striked in his first over and got the wicket of Pujara. RCB were hopeful that return of Chris Gayle will do wonders to their team but Kallis nulled The Gayle factor as he got his wicket in his second over leaving RCB struggling at 8/2 in 3.3 overs. Balaji was the next to strike as he got the priced wicket of V Kohli, last match hero AB de Villiers and M Agarwal leaving RCB tottering at 33/5 in 9.1 overs. Needing another 123 to win from 10 overs, Saurabh Tiwary and D Vettori took the charge and tried to accelerate the run rate. Vettori played a cameo of 20 runs in 12 balls and just when he started to look dangerous for KKR, Balaji bowled him leaving RCB at 60/6 in 11.5 overs. With this wicket, curtains were drawn on RCB’s victory dream and the team could manage just 124/9 in 20 overs and thus lost by 42 runs.
